Nissan tests self-cleaning paint that could make car washes obsolete

"We'll see about that."

Make sure he scratches it deep to the metal and hits at least 3 body panels. Then it'll be easier to paint the entire car instead of blending around the scratch.

Judging by my neighbors 1 year old Altima, Nissan should concentrate on learning how to paint cars correctly with the old fashioned stuff.

Does it work with all this god damn pollen that's coating my truck? If so, sold.

Also, does anyone have any idea how the hell to wash the back of the truck cab that's behind the bed? I've got enough pollen down there to start my own bee eatery down there, and nothing I've found thus far is small yet long enough to get into the gap.

/seriously, damn truck looks like it was at a tree bukake some days...

Must Not Make Penis Joke...

You have to say 'fark it' until the pollen goes away...You can wash it and next morning there's another coat of pollen. Basically, just spray it off with a garden hose to knock down the yellow coating each day if you really care.

Power wash the nasty away, then spray a liquid wax.

Ideally it's spray the liquid wax the day you buy the truck, then keep on it.

Good product, but it wears off. Maybe the next generation of it will last longer.

2014-04-24 10:23:46 PM
Well, we've never done this before. But seeing as it's special circumstances and all, Nissan says I can knock a hundred dollars off that Trucoat.

2014-04-24 10:23:54 PM
So..... basically put a layer of that never-wet stuff on it.

Okay.

I imagine people could probably do that themselves, but if they offer it for a competitive price... why not?

This. Of course, I live in the desert, so not washing it is more of an option than it was when I lived in the midwest.

So, I was watching the Daily Show.  And the other night, Jon had the new head of the EPA on.  She was talking about how Obama had "doubled" fuel economy, and it was written in statutes.  So, is this the new astral tech that is going to make it happen in 2022?

That's not bad....my ex-brother-in-law would climb under the truck and wax the underside of the bed.

Some stupid guy on a bike actually crashed into my car two days ago and scratched and dented two doors and the side panel so I'm nor getting a kick...

Had the same question. I wanna know what a car with this paint looks like after it gets coated with dust or pollen, and then rained on. Or parked under a tree that spits that obnoxious, dries-lacquer-hard, clear sap all over it. Or gets stuck behind a tar truck on the highway. Or gets hit by a drive by of those greasy insecticides they spray during the summer. Or gets driven cross country and gets bug corpses baked on for 1000 miles.

"Never wash your car again"? Total BS.

As someone who owns a black car this is extremely relevant to my interests.

Actual conversation;

Me: Goddamn the car actually does look good when it's clean
Wife: Yeah, too bad it's only clean until you exit the car wash

Why didn't the farking Nissan dealer tell me about this scratch shield thing?  I've scratches the length of the car on both sides (commuter parking, ugh!).  Will have to get the whole thing repainted.
