Is this hate or satire? They are mocking the state of Israel, but these people probably have nothing to do with that.

FTFA: A flyer titled  `eviction notice' anonymously slipped under doors at night is not an invitation to thoughtful, open discussion.

True. I'm sure the people getting real eviction notices feel the same way. But its hard to see what kind of real connection or assistance toward any solution this is intended to produce.

The flyer says at the bottom:

"This is intended to draw attention to the reality that Palestinians confront on a regular basis."

They appear to be "raising awareness", probably because they find an unused ribbon color.

College students since forever don't think things through.  This wouldn't have seemed out of the norm when I was in school in the late 80's.  Except back then AIDS was the big deal, so people would write "I tested positive - call me" on our whiteboards at random.  You know, to "raise awareness."

Unfortunately, I had no game in college, so those shenanigans were lost on me.

Yeah, I don't see where the evidence is this was targeted at Jews. Seems like just a protest; pretty effective one, for what it is.

It seems like it was an attempt to get the Jewish students in that dorm to understand what Palestinians go through when they receive similar notices.  Since they put "THIS IS NOT A REAL EVICTION NOTICE" on the bottom, I don't think I'd qualify this as a "hate prank", they're making a point and quite effectively.

Disband the student group and expel the members from the school. This kind of "protest" is BS and should not be tolerated. If they want to protest Israeli government actions then do so. These Jewish students are not the Israeli government and this is harassment at a minimum.

TFA is not clear, but any student regardless of race/religion who received this message on their door was harassed/intimidated IMHO. That would be my perception of the intent if they put one on my door. I'm not a part of either group if that matters to you.

No it isn't crazy or new, but targeting individuals is an over the line attempt to intimidate/threaten other students IMHO. They can be like the religious crazy guy and rant all they want.

Where did I say that? I think the Israeli government is criminal at a minimum for doing that to the Palestinians.

I don't get it, unless the Jewish students are renting the space from the Palestinian sympathizers...it just isn't the same thing.

The most racist part is their presumption that every Jewish NYU student agrees with Israeli policy.

I'll go ahead and presume that they all support every action made by Hamas. Then humanity can move forward.

Well, you'll have to find an expel the author who is some typist in Israel. The only original part of this notice is the date and the change of location (substitute "house" for "dorm"). It does describe itself in the bottom, I'd say it was pretty effective.

/Jewish

TFA was terrible. It appears their primary source of information was a blog, and the "journalist" who wrote it could not seem to get the facts straight.

If this targeted Jews, it was harassment. If not, it was just the rigt kind of edgy to get attention and deserve a mild reprimand.

They papered only one dorm.

They papered that dorm in the middle of the night when residents were asleep inside their rooms.

The paper said they would be evicted and implied force would be used.

If you do not vacate the premise by midnight on 25 April, 2014 we reserve the right to destroy all remaining belongings. We cannot be held responsible for property or persons remaining inside the premises,

"Being very straightforward, this made me feel targeted and unsafe in my own dorm room and I know others feel exactly the same as myself. I understand free speech rights but if this was targeted solely to Jewish students then this appears to be of a more threatening nature rather than informative," a sophomore said.

Ah, I remember being a college sophomore when I thought everything had to be couched in wordy, abstract terms that nonetheless acknowledged both sides of an issue; instead of saying, "These guys were dicks trying to make a point, badly, and I threw the thing in the bottom of the bird cage," which is what should have been done.

Nobody is as precious as a college sophomore, honestly.

So basically they copied the State of Israel pretty much in every way possible?

Pro tip: If you feel that strongly about the conflict, then do something about it. Sending out fake eviction notices to Jewish college students who likely have absolutely nothing to do with the conflict is not 'doing something about it.'

What it will do is get you disciplined with a verbal warning at best, and expelled based on the racist/hate nature of your 'strategy' at worst.

Whatever.

It may have escaped your notice this isn't Israel, this is a New York college.

And their papering, instead of being handed out at random across campus:
+ implied violence
+ was done in the dead of night
+ targeted a Jewish dorm

If you're okay with that, you're okay with that. It would be more honest for you to just say, "I'm okay with that", instead of making ridiculous rationalizations by comparing their "speech activities" at a NY college to what you believe erroneously the Israeli government does.

Warlordtrooper: If you are outrages at what these students did then you should also be outrages at Israel

What's allowed overseas, in other countries, will vary quite a bit.  The rules in Israel aren't the same as the rules in the US.  The rules in Iraq are different from both.

These are terrorists making threats in the US.  They should be treated as such.
