Just so no one misses the point here, I'm a big guy.  6'4", 240 pounds.  When I rode a horse every day, I rode a normal American quarterhorse.  Often, all day long.  I would try not to ride my primary horse two days in a row (easier on them if you can give them a day off), but that wasn't always possible.

It's a sad comment that so many people are in such bad shape that they have to ride a horse that has been bred, for centuries, to pull giant wagons and sleds.  Or, you know, the fat ass of one Texas housewife.

I actually like riding draft horses.  They may not gallop, but they're super comfy and are liking riding a monster truck.

Last year, I was at a resort that offered horseback rides.  The activities director asked if I was interested in going on a ride.  "I didn't realize you had Clydesdales in your stable."  We both had a good laugh.

Old story abt Pres Taft, who was a Big Boy (5 foot 11; weighed about 340 lbs)

"While he was in the Philippines, disturbing reports about his health caused Secretary of War Root to send a cabled inquiry. Taft cabled back that he was perfectly all right -- he had just finished a twenty-five-mile horseback ride and was feeling fine. Root read that, smiled, and sent off another cable of solicitude: 'How is horse?'"

They usually enjoy them with less intensity and frequency than their normal body sized counterparts.

National association of fat acceptance? Umm errr uhh... Wtf? I get 15+ pounds over my athletic running weight and I feel like shiat no motivation, no desire to go hiking or running, and sickly feeling. And then I have to force myself back into running (then ask myself why the hell did I ever stop?)

Looked up that website, loads of friggen laughs nafaa is pretty funny.

If it's the story I read, they suggested a 225 lb. max load for a regular quarter horse, who will weigh around 1,000 lbs.  Seems like a lot - you carry 1/4 of your body weight all day...

We have a guy in my neighborhood (Neigh...get it) with a saddle draft horse - he's not a big guy, so I assume he just likes to "Take the BIG Horse" as Gary Larsen put it so well.

Looks like there are some minor benefits to draft horses in the off season if I read the article correctly.

/used to need one of them big horses
//now I can ride a regular
///and I know why Grandpa's horse

Rule of thumb is that rider and tack must be no more than 20% of the horse's weight, or it's harmful.

I ride a Percheron/thoroughbred mix that's at least 18 hands.

/yeah yeah, sound fat, etc.
