I don't think you have to worry about the afternoon admin greening the murder/Goth kittens thread. He's a cat lover, just as we are.

YAY for Caturday! I am still alive and weakly kicking at EVERYTHING, because I can.

I'm going to go heat up some dinner noms. Costco already made it all for me. We are hasing these really fancy meatballs with some sort of fruit involved in them (I forget what kind exactly, but I think it's like a chicken teriyaki thingie), some jasmine rice (also frozen - just nuke it) and some broccoli. Pie for dessert, because I like pie. Everything is easy, fast, tasty and someone else bought it all. I like that combo! BBIAB!

Fruit and meat is such a classic combination, but so few people use it. They're missing out, really. Maybe because I was raised by folks who put lingonberry jam on their meatballs it doesn't seem strange to me at all, but to some people it is a weird combo. I really, really like fruit though, so that may be another reason it doesn't seem strange to me to have fruit in meatballs or with cheese or with almost anything, really.

I got a bunch of very tasty pears at the end of the season when they were super cheap and made a grilled cheese sammich with sliced pear. I used sourdough bread, extra sharp cheddar and thinly sliced pear. Put some butter on the outside for browning (of course) and then thought "why not use cinnamon sugar to make a nice crust on this sammich?" and so I did. OMGs! It turned out AWESOME. No different than putting a slice of cheddar on a piece of apple pie, except it was pears. And a sammich. On sourdough. But it was the same CONCEPT. sorta.

Oven should be preheated by now, so off to start baking/nuking stuff. For REALS this time!

Also, since we're at the beginning of the thread - *Need Help!* - I got a new kitten in January because my old cat died and I had one lonely cat who needed company.  It's been going swimmingly, but the new cat Jasper:

img842.imageshack.us

has absolutely horrific diarrhea.  I mean, clear the house poo and since he's also a little simple he'll sometimes step in it and get it all over the carpet.  I've been to the vet every three weeks (since Jan 1)  trying to clear it up.  He doesn't have worms, but he was a feral cat before he was in the shelter and he has a host of problems as a result.  He's been on Metronidazole and that works, but it's an antibiotic so he can't stay on it forever.  The vet and I are trying to figure out if there's any food out there that will calm the little guy's stomach down.  I've been through every iteration of Meow Mix and Fancy Feast dry and wet, and now we've moved onto prescription Hill's prescription W/D, but after a week that doesn't seem to be working, either.  He flat out will not eat that Sheba crap.

Has anyone dealt with this before?  Any suggestions for food?  I know all cats are unique, but this one is unique in that everything I feed him turns into a weapon the Germans could have used in WWI.  I didn't think my vet was taking me seriously but when he was in last month he farted and her eyes teared up and she left to get a box of matches.  She knows there's a problem, but she's still sticking with finding a food that doesn't result in poopageddon. Do any of you have some secret food that has worked for you in the past?

That does sound awesome! I first tried a Lingonberry jam and balsamic vinegar reduction sauce on a pork roast a few years ago and fell in love with the sauce. It also has a little fresh thyme, oregano, sage & garlic in it. I make it up in advance & keep it in the freezer so I can add it to a pork chop whenever I want. Yum!

I don't know if this helps but the only time that Gremie gets like that is when he has canned fish every day. Now he's lucky to get one can of fish a month.

FWIW,  one of mine, Little Miss, develops that particular situation every three weeks or so... as she stays in the bedroom with Dinky, I find out that 'it,s back'  during the night, when I wake up gagging... hiding under the covers does not help.. that 'odair' permeates everything and I usually end up on the couch with Stretch, who is delighted to have someone to keep awake..... food doesn't seem to be an issue, as she eats the same thing every day..... buy friskies in bulk.. four flavors.. the timing of the flavors has no relation to when it happens.....and my vet is puzzled also....

I am so sorry for your loss. I sincerely hope there will be some dire retribution at her nursing home, the kind that results in major changes. It won't bring her back but may stop it happening to someone else. Chin up and hug a cat.

I get to go to the cardiologist again tomorrow (Fri) to see what they plan to do with me.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but reality intrudes sometimes and I think this might be one of those instances.

My 3 1/2 year old kitty Abby went through a similar problem when I caught her at 6 weeks of age. She was from a feral momma I finally caught a year and a half later at my office. Abby was on several antibiotics for months before we finally got rid of her diarrhea. The food I gave her had no grain in it and I had to change her from dry food to wet food because she was eating too fast & gorging herself on the dry food. I would look at the pet food stores, not the grocery stores for this kind of food. I found that chicken or lamb worked best because I had been told that some cats have a problem with fish cat food. I also found that I had to give her a probiotic for a while because the antibiotics had gotten rid of her good gut bacteria too. I can't tell you how many times I leaped out of bed in the middle of the night because of the "pbbbbbbt" sound of kitty diarrhea which was too close for comfort and invariably was coming from her being ON the bed when it happened. I know that I washed all of the bed covers 3 days in a row, and one day I had to do it twice!
