(Talking Points Memo)   According to a conservative radio host, Cliven Bundy's problem isn't that he holds repugnant racist views and believes black were better off under slavery, but just that nobody taught him not to say that out loud where reporters could hear   (talkingpointsmemo.com) divider line 1194

It's because he's used to spending all his time with people who believe just like he does.  He didn't know enough to censor himself.

Is he?

I've been assured by Real PatriotsTM that Bundy has a God-given right to that land and any interference from the federal government is pretty clearly overreach and they should be able to shoot at them because reasons.

If Bundy is a racist, that is awful, but what exactly does that have to do with the BLM?

"If?!?"

And then the biatch goes on to defend that hypocritical mooching racist asshole. Amazing.

Okay, I've been away from the news for the past week or so, so I sort of missed out on this Bundy thing. From the Wiki, he's a guy who refuses to pay the government for grazing on government lands, so the government started impounding his trespassing cattle. How and why did this become a cause celebre, exactly?

I'm guessing here, but I would surmise FOX News and/or Rush Limbaugh made shiat up to enrage their viewers and listeners.  Like always.

Exactly! It's about a paramilitarized bureaucratic entity responding to collect a bill in dispute due to arguments over state ownership and open range laws, where the debtor has abjectly failed in his judicial appeals over the dispute and is now using the threat of armed insurrection to make it impracticable to enforce the laws of the United States in any State by the ordinary course of judicial proceedings.

She's got a point - you can be racist and hate the Feds, or racist and love them. What it has to do with BLM is fairly obvious: a racist hates BLM for enforcing BLM rules.

She just sounds incredibly stupid (and possibly racist herself) in the process: "It's a legitimate question to ask whether someone born into involuntary servitude, never educated beyond 'here's how you do job X' and forbidden from taking part in organized society is better or worse off than someone born into poverty (RELATIVE poverty, that is - 99.6% of the poors have refrigerators) and receiving government assistance in the form of subsidies, cash or freely available education, food, housing, health insurance/care, etc."

I heard the Feds are giving this loser his cattle back for some reason.  If the cattle are on Federal land illegally, we should be able to shoot them.  And more importantly, eat them.

All in favor?

I'm sure he hates the idea of SNAP and government handouts in general, so we can feed his cattle to the poor and solve two problems at once.

this gets a lot of use when debating those folks:

"what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul. "

As someone outside the United States, I have to ask:

Is this the pinnacle of Obama derangement syndrome?

This appears, at least to me, to be the most severe example of butthurt over a blah president.

David Atkins over at Digby

Republican politicians will try to distance themselves from Bundy, but it's too late. Bundy really does speak for the conservative base, and uses the same arguments as most of the GOP's most popular politicians and talking heads. He just uses more honest and forthright language to describe his racist beliefs.

How else should the BLM have responded to collect a bill from a guy who has consistently ignored court orders and is willing to call up his "militia" buddies to help him avoid paying said bill?

I'm very confused. I went to Fox News, thinking they'd be the number one source on any information related to this man because they've been more or less covering him 24/7 for the past couple of weeks. And yet, I don't see the name "Cliven Bundy" anywhere at all on their home page. What's going on? Has their site been hacked?

Well Sean Hannity started using his nightly talk show as a platform to encourage insurrection and rioting, a bunch of wing nuts with guns started flocking to his ranch to fight the bid gubmint,   a shiatload of local and federal GOP types started calling Bundy a "Hero' and Patriot (even though he says the federal government doesn't exist)

Basking in his instant celebrity Mr. Bundy started holding foth on how we should re-enslave black people for their own good...and here we are:   watching as some of his prominent supporters drop him like a hot rock, while others did in and double down

I remember when David Duke's views were on the fringe. Now, his views are mainstream Republican.

We now have armed right wing racist militias and a global news network cheering them on.

Congratulations, Republicans.

Let me see if I've got the timeline correct...

Mr. Bundy's family moved to what would eventually become Nevada. Then he scored four touchdowns in a single game, after which he was defeated by Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania @, which caused him to rape and murder several young women. And now Mr. Bundy doesn't want to pay his pre-hamburger storage fees to the government.

Do I have the timeline correct?
