Snyder doesn't have an issue with the team name; he has subscriptions.

I don't think he'd care even then

Simply put in a bylaw that the team's name must be changed before ownership can change hands. Then Snyder can ignore it all he wants, but it will hurt the resale value of his franchise if he doesn't

That will happen right after they put in a bylaw that bars teams from taking public money for new stadiums, or one forcing them to consider cheerleaders as team employees and pay them accordingly.

I like that.

I thought the Bullets could change to the Washington Homeless, but it could work for the 'Skins too.  Call the team the Homies.  Every week, you get a new homeless guy to be your mascot.  You hose him down in the locker room.  You give him a bunch of clean clothes (team-branded schwag, sweatpants, heavy jackets).  You feed him on game day.  You let him flip the coin to see who kicks off.  Sunday night, you buy him a cab to his favorite shelter and make a $5k donation in his name.

And yet the Washington (Grand Imperial) Wizards in a town with a large African American population gets a free pass.

That's it, I'm rooting for the Washington Generals.

As I've said here before, they need to change to the obvious nickname: Hawgs.  It's a tribute to the offensive line that won them three Superb Owls and to many of the residents of D.C..

Skins fan here.

Newsflash:  Dan Synder is an egotistical dick.

he might as well change the name, it would be the only victorious thing he ever did for the redskins

Why? A polling of native americans showed a minority actually cared. Stop promoting racial injustice issues to prove racial injustice.

I've seen Pigskins suggested before. Probably makes the most sense still call them the skins has to do with football and a nod the the hogs.

And if we've proven anything here, it's that we don't give a sh*t what minorities want.

You can always find someone to object to something. The "groups" do not seem to have a very significant number of supporters if the above statements about polls indicating indifference across the majority.

From what I understand, it's a 'City Indian' problem. People on the Res couldn't care less.

Not to mention a subtle finger to the pork-barrel nature of the town.

+1 for this idea, sir!

Pigskins sounds wrong. Like "we let that kid from Axe Cop name our team" wrong. We're talking about a multi-billion dollar organization here, and it's owed a snappy name. What you're suggesting is just naming it after the football itself. Is there a team in the MLB called the Horsehides or Mitts? How about an NHL team called the Pucks? No, Pigskins is a semi-pro team name and despite the team's subpar performance, we shouldn't subject it to such humiliation.

Something like Hawgs, however, might work. Warthogs, maybe?

Yeah, it's not like they're one of the most politically marginalized groups in the country or anything.

More to the point, why keep it? No matter what way you slice it, it's a slur. Yes, the community faces much bigger problems, but systemic, ingrained stereotypes like the ones promoted by the name are a good place to start in changing negative perceptions.

I understand people not caring about changing the name. Hell, I even understand people defending the name. I think given the history of the previous owner, that name has some baggage attached to it.

But why oh why do you guys keep trotting out that poll as a defense. It was done a long time ago and the sampling was poor. It was based on self-identified Native Americans.

Defend the name all you want, but using that poll in defense of the name isn't helping.
