The entire article was basically about Game of Thrones readers who go into TV show threads to spoil people or do things like create Twitter accounts called @JoffreyDiesAtHisWedding to Tweet at TV critics.

I think the reason they do it is because they know the series is going to finish before the books and they're just pissed that they're the ones who will be spoiled in the end.

They're malicious ones are generally opposed to the fandom and ignorant of what details they're discussing. The others just want to speculate about what happens next.

The Internet turns everyone into a little kid with no moral compass, no sense of responsibility and a mean streak a mile wide.
2014-04-23 08:32:42 PM
You know you can drive people crazy for a few days with spoilers or you can totally make up an episode and drive them crazy for years.

This brings back so many great memories:

* The episode of Lost where the plot suddenly made total sense briefly.
* The episode of Game of Thrones where everybody beat the shiat out of that Little Prince Fauntleroy the Pug-faced who has a face that makes you want to grind his face into the ground with hobnailed jackboots for ever and for ever.
* The episode of Married With Children where Bud and Al go to New York to complain about being served a thin crust seafood pizza by a major national pizza yurt chain and are gang-raped by supermodels.
* The episode where everything Bill O'Reilly says suddenly made total sense for once.
* The episode of Fox & Friends where they forgot the mike was on and expressed what they really think about Republicans.
* No, these examples are all too obvous. If you really want to fool people you have to be subtle.

His 2011 study at UCSD - with co-author Jonathan Leavitt - used short fiction to look at the effects of spoilers. Their experiments involved participants reading stories that were either as-is, with a spoiler paragraph in the beginning or with the spoiler included in the story.
The findings suggest that plot is overrated, NPR reported. The experiment found that knowing the end - ahead of time - actually enhanced overall enjoyment. The researchers did not predict the finding, but Nicholas says that in retrospect, the answer seems obvious.
He points to Shakespeare's plays, which are sorted by their endings, as examples of how knowing the plot in advance does not diminish the experience. The same goes for operas, too, where the audience is wise to familiarize themselves with the story before the show.

tl;dr. stop being so melodramatic about spoilers

I have a question about GOT.  When John Arryn died, I thought whatever poison that killed him bugged his eyes out.  But now that Joeffrey died, I see it's either a terrible special effects/makeup job or it's supposed to be painted rocks over his eyes.  Anybody know what's up with that?  Don't recall from the books.

AfterMASH wasn't very good but Trapper John MD had that crazy zany gonzo guy going for it
2014-04-23 08:45:11 PM
The global internet makes things kinda dodgy

For instance, people were on twitter after GOT aired on the east coast, spoiling it for folks out west.  Hell, people go to HBO GO the second the show starts and post stuff on Twitter, essentially spoiling the show BEFORE it aired.

If people would just not be assholes...

Aw hell, I can't even finish writing that
