Pretty lazy, even by conspiracy theory standards.  Where's the nefarious reason?

This is more idle speculation than conspiracy theory.  Though equally lacking in merit.

As far as lame conspiracy theories go, this one is pretty good.

I like how the tin foil hat brigade describes that Diego Garcia is some ultra-secret base that nobody knows about.  DG and Thule, Greenland have been the two punchline "if you fark up again, I'm sending you here" bases since before I was a teenaged E-nothing.

How in the world would anybody mistake a frickin' 777 with "Malaysia Airlines" plastered all over it for any other airplane?!

Agreed. Weak sauce even for the tinfoil hat crowd.

Screw the conspiracy theories. It is doubtful that plane is in the Indian Ocean. They just aren't looking in the right place. It has to be on land somewhere. There is no way that debris could remain undetected this long.

2014-04-23 01:05:14 PM
Won't be the first time the US accidently shot down an airliner.

2014-04-23 01:05:20 PM
well to be fair it's not like a similar event has ever never happened before.

The most credible theory I've heard (and from a pilot) is that the pilot turned on the oxygen, everyone died, and he landed the plane for some nefarious use later.

2014-04-23 01:05:34 PM
That conspiracy has been around since pretty much day 1 amongst the nutters.  We shot it down, China shot it down, Pakistan shot it down, some government hijacked it and landed it at Diego Garcia/Chinese Air Base/Pakistan.  Etc.

And like most of these conspiracies, in order for this to work it would require multiple governments, many of whom don't like or trust each other, to work hand in hand to make the evidence go away, not to mention all the various companies involved (cell phone records, Immerstat satellite data, etc).

2014-04-23 01:06:09 PM
I totally believe it, I mean, its the only explanation on why we have not found a debris field.

Everyone knows, when you shoot a plane down out of the sky it totally disintegrates leaving nothing.

It is known Khalisi

2014-04-23 01:06:44 PM
We certainly aren't getting the full story on this. The whole thing seems botched from the beginning. The co-pilot breaking established protocol on the final transmission seems rather odd as well as the telemetry data still being sent after the plane was "lost".

2014-04-23 01:07:33 PM

Johnny Texas: Except that wouldn't explain while there was no debris field.  The plane either eased into the ocean like an old man into a warm bath, or was taken by aliens.  Right now, it's 50/50.

Or it crashed in the middle of Indian Ocean, 4+ hours flight from civilization, and known for extreme rough seas and storms, and we didn't start searching there until most of the debris had either been scattered or sunk.  I believe day 3 of the search was called off due to a hurricane going through the area.

I've read theories blaming it on,  god, aliens andlizard people.  I'd say that an earthly entity being blamed is much less 'extreme' than those one.

"Most extreme"? More extreme than the one that accuses Michael Jackson's ghost haunting the aircraft and forcing the pilots to give a parachute to every boy younger than 15 years old before deliberately crashing the plane into the South Pole? No.

Please. Have some creativity.

I have, I kid you not, seen "theories" on facebook and elsewhere that the plane and its passengers are being held at Diego Garcia.

2014-04-23 01:11:21 PM
I have been saying this for the past 2 years and none of you listened to me. Now that it's starting to come out, you are all starting to freak out. I am telling you it WAS the US Government shooting it down to try to kill the Reptiloid overlord to try to save John Smith so that the time travelers (I am one of them, I am just on the  side of the Razlins) from death. Wake up sheeple!

2014-04-23 01:12:05 PM
US would be more likely to send it a strongly worded letter than to shoot it down.

The creatures running the supercomputer on which our universe is being simulated deleted the plane.

2014-04-23 01:14:19 PM
Hasn't the US Navy been blamed for every ship or aircraft that goes down in the last thirty years. The only reason people don't blame the South Korean ferry disaster on them is that they're too busy blaming the North Koreans...

What are the other three commercial airliners the US has shot down?

And here's what happened.  There was a fire, the pilot climbed to 40k feet to extinguish it, then dropped to 5k so passengers could breathe.  During this he started following emergency courses (which experts agree the plane may have been flying on and can explain some turns) and at some point everyone lost consciousness/died, the plane flied pre-programmed routes, ran out of gas, and is now sleeping with the fishes.

Ta-da.

2014-04-23 01:18:51 PM
There's only one way to get to the bottom of this. Somebody tell Nancy Grace there was at least one, blonde, white girl on the plane (with an angry, layered haircut).

2014-04-23 01:19:04 PM
Actually, the pilots were CIA operatives.  They faked an equipment failure and landed at an out-of-the-way island air-strip, where, US Special Forces laid in wait, stormed the plane, killing everyone.  It was then towed out to a deep trench and dropped in such a way that it would never be founds.

This was all on the president's orders because one of the passengers was a terrors "walking/talking command-and-control" center.

Or was that an episode of The West Wing?

I'm sticking with the Payne Stewart scenario.  Gradual loss of consciousness followed by death of all aboard, plane flew on and on until fuel was exhausted, finally nosed into the ocean intact.

Without even RTFA, I can tell you why it's BS.

Every gov't in that part of the world has their own surveillance going on.  And there is no gov't institution of our own that could shut them up.  So any one of them would know exactly where our military was at any given time.  So even if our own gov't tried to hush up something like that, someone else would shoot their mouth off pretty much instantly.

On the other hand, of their surveillance is so farking great, how come they couldn't track the plane for so long that it got lost?
On the other other hand, what are the odds that the plane would dissappear at that absurdly dark time in everyone's radar?

2014-04-23 01:27:19 PM
The conspiracy theory I heard was that the crash was intentional sabotage for profit. The tale they tell is that there were scientists on board who held pending patents worth billions. Only after they were dead, were the patents pushed through and approved.

spooooooooooky

Because the US military just randomly shoots down civilian aircraft for the yuks. And other governments don't notice or complain. And the media doesn't notice or complain. And nobody else ever sees them do it. And there aren't angry mobs beseiging every US embassy and consulate when this happens.

I worked for a while in the Department of Foreign Affairs when I was a temp and one of the divisions I worked in was responsible for sending diplomatic notes to foreign countries when they informed us (the Canadian Government) of their intent to fly military or diplomatic aircraft over Canadian territory and waters). Government send each other these little notes precisely to avoid having their regular unscheduled aircraft flights accidentally (or accidentally on purpose) shot down by other governments.

Commercial flights are tracked and regulated by a different system but the chances of a commercial flight being accidentally shot down are slim (which is why that flight the Russians shot down was news worthy). Aircraft are challenged before they are shot down and the pilot of a commercial flight has no reason to ignore challenging fighter jets. The odds of a commercial flight being shot down and NOT noted by every other country in the world is even slimmer. Countries do care about this sort of thing.

And if a plane was shot down there would be clear evidence of this in the debris--barring the existence of unknown super-weapons, the debris collected from the crash sight would certainly show signs of artillery or other conventional weapon use.

If to explain your hypothesis you need to event further mysteries to explain the mysteries, you are probably a conspiracy theory monger or crank.

More evidence that the ocean is not a good place to build an airport despite all the space that nobody is using. There will be overshoots. It's best if the overshoot zone is paved with ground rather than water.

I'll one up the conspiracy theories with some sci-fi.

It never took off. The entire plane was locked down under quarantine before it could get in the air, and everyone died of a pneumo hemorrhagic bug that was transmitted by a Typhoid Mary type. It was hauled into a hanger and sterilized with a hundred thousand gallons of lye solution, which ate the bodies and the airplane.

Incompetent hijackers.   Took over the plane, and realized they couldn't fly it.

2014-04-23 01:38:28 PM
Plane was being hi-jacked, CIA remotely took over control, flew high knocking out passengers to stop hi-jacking but didn't want anyone to know they have that ability so they dissappeared the plane into ocean or scrapped and sold for parts. Tada

2014-04-23 01:39:27 PM
Whilst it's helping, America isn't taking the lead role in the search that would be Australia, China and Malaysia so even the CIA would struggle to suppress it if found.
Beside why would the US cover it up anyway, surely they would admit it, offer a public apology, discipline some hapless junior officers and pay out a farkload of compensation.
There would be a few anti-American demonstrations in Kuala Lumpur and Bejing and some angry flag-burning but it would blow over in a few months,
