Uh, so many of those were so stupid, yet even dumber is the fact that the DMV wouldn't allow them.

Stupid list is stupid.

Be happy it's a slide show. You'll get frustrated after the first few, and then just move on.

I saw an SUV last night with the license plate "5318008".  That was amusing enough, but when I passed it, there was a full family of four in the car, with two kids in back seat.

Waldo Pepper: sort of surprised we hate snow was banned

Me too.

Virginia must have looser rules than Florida on what can go on a license plate.  I've seen many that were in questionable taste, although the infamous EATTHE on the "Kids First" plate was finally banned.

What about 'STUDMAN69'?

2014-04-23 12:12:52 PM
The stupidest one I ever saw was in Virginia.  It said "H8N COPS".  Way to put a target on your own back.

Well those were stupid.  But in all honesty, if I didn't like my personalized plates so much, I'd try for
 I H8 GOP.  I like that one.

Apparently RUB1OF and FEL8ME have been issued.

Can cops pull you over if they determine your license plate name is lewd? Or do they just report it to the DMV? And whose job is it to rifle through these names and determine if TITJOB or PUSYETR are acceptable or not?

I've had my personal plate for about 15 years now. Every now and then I get a letter because it was flagged for review. I guess once in a while someone at the tag office watches Full Metal Jacket.

The plate
'2-BOOKOO'

The most memorable thing I've seen on a vanity plate was: XQQQME. I saw it twice several years apart.

You could make that shorter. 8 already has a T sound at the end, so instead of 'H8T' you could use 'H8'.

I live in Florida and just bought a Mustang. I was thinking of getting HNGLK1 or HUNGLK1 which are both available, but they don't fit on the horse themed plate.

/Well that, and I hate to disappoint people.

The best one I've ever heard of locally was 3M TA3. Not really noticeable until you see it in your rear view mirror.

When I was in high school (circa 1990) a guy who lived near me had the following plate:

WTFG4IA

After about a year of walking by it and not being able to figure it out I finally caught him outside and asked him what it meant.

"What the fark? Go for it anyway!" was his enthusiastic response.

My favorite plate that I have actually seen in person:

IWEWEYQ

I saw one in Colorado that said HIYOAG.
Took me a minute or two to figure that out...

Best one I have ever seen was on a yellow road runner ,   ACME

H20-k9 on a pair of jetskis got me laughing as well.

I did a GIS search for Dr. Ewbie. Apparently Drewbie is the handle of a professional Starcraft 2 player.

Guy I used to work with had WFVCAFS.  I could not for the life of me figure it out.

Wanted For Various Crimes Across Five States.  He thought it was terribly clever.

He was also about 5' nothing, maybe 100 pounds, mechanical engineer.  But a very, very fun guy to work with, and farking brilliant.

A few years ago I saw a New York plate that said "Trekkies." I encountered the owners at the store and complimented them on it. They thanked me but gave me a weird look. Apparently complimenting license plates isn't something people do.

I think the closest thing I've seen to a regional appropriate plate was "I H8RT1".

If you happen to live in central NJ, and drive through the Princeton area on Route 1, you'd get the joke.  Especially if it's on a car directly in front of you on Route 1 on your morning commute.
