I guess the Ontario Provincial Police weren't down with that. You know them.

Well, you're probably an awful person if you give a kid a bunny for Easter.  Rabbits are large responsibility for the rest of its life.

I agree.  You should never give a live animal as a gift.  If the intended recipient actually wants a pet, they will seek one out on their own.  Don't condemn an animal because you think it's a good idea.

Our local farmers market had a deal where you could take home two chicks in a cage, food included for a month and then return it to the farmer.  That seemed pretty do-able, if the price weren't $50.  I liked the idea anyway.

No 3-year-old should be given a bunny. No 6-year-old, either. Nothing wrong with having animals in the house, even rabbits, but they belong to the parents.

That's definitely an improvement over the usual arrangement.

I remember, when I was little, lots of stores would sell spray painted chicks for easter. I wanted one. Parents said no. There was an ordinance enacted against it, saying too many died, and were a disease hazard. You could still find them at flea markets for a while, but who wants a flea market pet?
I even remember back far enough, when the dime store sold small alligators. But that's another story.

Ah yes - my home town once again makes the front page of Fark.
Just once, ONCE, for something positive? Too much to ask?
