That's swell.  (Well, except for the AIDS part.)

For some reason, I think Macklemore is one of the funniest comedians to surface in the last decade or so.  He is a comedian, right?  That music he plays is supposed to be a joke, sort of like Tenacious D or Spinal Tap.

In 1984, my mom gave birth to my older sister, Teresa. Due to a complicated delivery, she needed a blood transfusion and at that moment, my mom had HIV+ blood put into her

I realize the early 80s were the start of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, but why Lewis's family didn't sue that hospital into oblivion is beyond me

Very cool, and further evidence that the people who say Magic Johnson got some secret 'cure' are idiots.  He's simply on effective antiretroviral meds.   "Poz" people who take care of themselves in this manner are believed to live a near normal life span.

Because in 1984 they didn't know better. It's what got Asimov. Although, to be fair, he'd be dead by now either way.

Same Love was a joke or was that your snarky way of giving your opinion on a subjective matter?

She's still incredibly fortunate to have contracted the virus that early on and survived. A lot of the people who were infected during that era didn't make it.

He's never heard that song. He heard Thrift Store on the radio, formed his whole opinion off that, and now needs everyone to know that he doesn't care for that damned hippity-hop music the kids these days listen to.

Same thing with Hepatitis C - there wasn't a test for it until sometime in the 80s. That's why the estimates for how many people might have it are so high.

Sitting at the auto garage waiting on my car to get some work done, and they have one of the morning shows on in the lobby. They promoed this story and said something like, "what is macklemore's secret? Find out after the break." So of course the old geezer sitting across from me says, "it's that he's a queer!"

Great way to start the morning

If you had heard anything besides "Thrift Shop", you likely wouldn't make such an ignorant comment.  Unless you're trolling, of course.

I like "Same Love," unironically. I straight up like it, and I don't care if it's not cool. "Thrift Shop" is just fun. I know it's not cool to like Macklemore, but f*ck that noise.

I couldn't name a song besides the one about shopping at goodwill but being in seattle you hear about the guy. And what you hear is that he's a really cool guy who has not forgotten the little people. This is based largely on the fact that the guy who drives the dump truck at our construction company still hangs out with him.

3 songs with a combined 900 million youtube hits. If they got 1 penny from google for every hit, that's 9 million dollars. Even if they taxed half of that money, 4.5 million dollars. That's without one appeance, song roylaty, nothing.

Pretty sure you could rip me any way you want if I was making that much money.

Because there were no testing of blood for HIV at the time, and his family isn't made up of vindictive assholes?

Very true.... the medications were a lot more toxic and a lot less effective even 10 or 15 years ago.   It wasn't until they started combining 3 types of meds that work at the issue from different angles were they able to really reduce the viral load in the patient to undetectable levels and stop the virus from mutating into something that the meds would no longer have an effect on.  Lots and lots of deaths right at that cusp in time, and i am in no way am looking past their misfortune.
