Expensive bike at Walmart... Yeeeaaaahhh, and I'm a goat typing with my fancy hooves.

Why in the who did he when what the hell was he thinking?  Even meth cannot get this one past my explanation filters.

"Hey, will you hold my gun, and point it at the guy wearing the Rolex?  Thanks.  Back in two seconds.

Thanks again!  Have a great night!"

I dunno it might not have been as stupid as it seems. Who actually has the serial number on their bike written down?

He stole or from a condo a few days before. Not Walmart.

(I had the same reaction)

Was there probable cause to run the serial number?

Mr. Cat Poop: Was there probable cause to run the serial number?

Probably a report of "this particular shiny new bike of this brand and this color" happened to be in his mind since it wasn't stolen long ago.

Maybe the fact that he was being arrested for theft?

I think there was a tip from a Mr. Herman regarding Francis here.

I wouldn't do that if I had the receipt for it in my wallet.

Cops tend to exist it make arrests.  Make their life more difficult by asking a favor, your life will probably be made more difficult.

It makes it much easier for the cops when criminals are intellectually challenged. Fortunately for the rest of us, that is a common occurrence.

Makes me wonder what kind of bike. Many have the serial numbers on the bottom of the crank housing, so they'd have to invert the bike.
I have a personal article floater insurance policy on my bike, and I won't leave it anywhere. When I'm on it, I take it into the store with me. Once, I went to Walwatr, and was asked if I wanted to buy the bike. I told then Walmart doesn't sell bikes like that.
Guy was ballsy, but stupid.

Ah, I misread it. I thought he asked them to watch his bike before he went in to do his shoplifting.

Do not judge my fine state based upon the shiat hole counties such as DeKalb, Fulton and Cobb.

I think the store where the bike is sold keeps that info. I've also heard that some of the higher end bikes (i.e. $2000+) have built in tracking devices.

I have mine. Had my son's bike serial number also, which came in handy when I found the bike two days after it was stolen... I knew it was his because of marks I'd etched onto it, but the serial number was confirmation.

I have pictures of my bikes along with the serial numbers on my phone and on dropbox
