If Courtois is the one to sink Chelski, will Mourinho blame UEFA for his loss?

Hey, it's Ashley Cole. Forgot he hasn't retired.

Fox Sports 1. You know, the one w/ baseball, NASCAR, and UFC stuff.

Costa's back already? From that nasty gash he got a couple weeks ago, I thought he might be done for the season.

Costa pissed at Terry. I assume Terry asked him about his wife.

Looking bad for Cech.

Cech's out. Hurt his right arm too badly to continue.

So, so much THIS

Pretty sure that wasn't the start Chelsea wanted this way.  Saw the replay, couldn't see exactly what happened though, maybe he just landed awkwardly.

2014-04-22 03:05:57 PM
Hey, Schwarzer is getting his CL football. Good for him.

It was the awkward landing.

It took me a while, but I finally figured that out.

Knowing how Torres used to be, it's always baffling when he botches a play by being "too slow".

Gotta love the BBC Sport feed

If the referee lets both teams play physical football, is that more to Chelsea's advantage? They look bigger than Atletico, but I admit that I haven't seen any Atletico matches this year.

Not sure about it. Atletico's pretty tough. It all depends on how many dirty tricks the ref will allow.

So it seems like The Boring One is playing 19th century football from everything I'm reading and hearing.

He is. Sitting really deep, offering nothing offensively. I'm getting Stoke flashbacks.

Courtois didn't even jump for that. Huuuuuuuuuuge.

Isn't that what Mourinho does? Sit deep and soak up pressure away, frustrate your opponents, look for opportunities on the counter, then go for it on your home pitch.

2014-04-22 03:28:05 PM
Simeone looks like a coach that would eviscerate you for a match-losing mistake.

If Chelsea play any deeper in their own half they'll be playing in the river outside.

Ten men setting up in the box every play seem a bit much for you?

So many crosses from Atletico. It's United-esque

Same thing I was thinking. Especially when Raul Garcia is their only aerial threat. He's no Peter Crouch.

Except a lot of the time, it seems like he doesn't even bother playing a counterattack. He'd rather have a boring 0-0 draw than try to win 1-0 on a counter attacking goal.

Plus Chelsea looks taller at the back. Crosses may be okay, but maybe putting them into the 6 yard box is making things too easy for Schwarzer. Drop them into the penalty area, just not at Schwarzer's feet.

And that probably cost him the title. That early 0-0 tie with Moyes is key.

Especially when they've invested millions in attacking players.

It is hard to do anything against a team that refuses to even entertain possession of the ball. Look at all the times Barcelona couldn't find a way through this Chelsea team over the last 10 years by playing through the middle.

100% agree and I was thinking that would be the case a month ago.

Looking at the Cech injury play, he landed hard on his right elbow.

From the BBC:

ichef.bbci.co.uk

"I wouldn't say Fernando Torres (number nine) was isolated up front for Chelsea but they will have to send messages by pigeon in the second half. He may as well set up a deckchair. "

2014-04-22 03:42:35 PM
Watching this match, you would be forgiven for thinking Atletico was the team that cost nearly four times as much to assemble as their opponents.

Starting Torres is a sure sign that Mourinho has no intention of attempting to score.

/Too harsh?

2014-04-22 03:44:35 PM
On the BBC commentary page, they're showing a map of the average field position for Chelsea's players. The only one beyond the halfway line is Torres and he's basically on the edge of the center circle.

Boring, boring Chelsea. Boring, boring Jose.

Good. Every time that negative shiate wins a title is a black eye for the sport. It's one thing to play like this if you are Stoke or Norwich, and another thing entirely when you have a virtually unlimited transfer fund.
