Hope the railroad sues him for trespassing or something and gets every cent. My grandfather was a legendary railroad detective and my kin doesn't take kindly to folks who act stupid and disrespectful and be where they ain't supposed to be like this guy. You have any idea what kind of a clusterfark it makes in a schedule when some jackass like this inevitably gets plastered and the train has to stop in place and the line closes while the whole area gets roped off as a crime scene and the idiot's jackassery is forensically documented? How much money the railroad has to spend on lawyers to prove this idiot jackass deserves whatever happens to him?

He's lucky that was a boot and not an open steel door or some other iron protruberance that would have made for a video more appropriate for Ogrish. There's a reason you aren't allowed to be where that idiot was.

No.

This is based on theoretical dollars on a viral video that has a notoriously short lived shelf life. Kevin O'Leary who is a media behemoth and one of the members of Dragon's Den and is generally a dickhole, but is right on this count. He said this morning on CBC the popularity of this video will last another week until people move on to the next hot thing. He said "The best way to sustain popularity on YouTube is to serialize your program"

This is a one off. A fluke. And very very hard to monetize.

Stupid Story Bro:

years ago, part of my job was to inspect rail cars as they were parked on a spur line.  Climb each one, inspect, climb down, go to the next, repeat.  This spur line was right alongside the main rail line, and it was not unusual for a freight train to be barreling down the adjacent track as we (i) inspected. It was pretty normal for us to climb down the car, and walk between the stationary cars and the speeding train.  There was no reason to wait for the train to pass, we could get to the next car and have it done!

One day, when we were on a car, doing our inspection, a train went past, and we heard something odd, a scraping noise growing louder.  We looked, and down the line, on a freight car coming our direction at thirty  miles an hour, was a steel bar that stuck out to the side of the car about four foot, and was bent downwards, occasionally hitting the rocks alongside the tracks as it passed.  It went past, knocking gravel out as it did, and leveling the lumps and humps as it went like a grader blade.

If we had been standing between the cars, like we often did to walk to the next, that steel bar would have hit us about ankle high, at thirty miles an hour (or more, maybe).

I doubt there would have been anything left of my feet.

From that moment on, I gained a new level of respect and fear for trains, and I have never walked closed to a moving train, ever again.

The metal loop that looks like would have missed him but was close enough that the conductor likely thought he was saving the kid from.

It happened in Peru. Not sure if it the frivolous law suits work theme way there. They'd probably just toss him out of the country.

Relax.

It was in Peru and along a stretch of track where the trains go slow...really...really slow about 17 mph and where the tracks are typically crowded with people walking.

A mile-long freight train moving at 17mph has more than enough momentum to explode dozens of people's bodies in a fraction of a second without measurably slowing.

This kind of underestimation is exactly what I am preaching against.

Trains are terrifyingly powerful.

What's going to stop the next college/teenage moron from trying something just as dangerous, or even more so, with the sole intent that, "Hey, IF this goes viral, I'll be rich!"?

I wouldn't fault him for suing the shiat out of the conductor and the railroad.  That kick was assault, and could very well have pulled him into the side of the train.

He was farking trespassing! Such a suit would get immediately tossed. The railroad should protect itself by filing trespassing charges against him.

i have a feeling y'all aren't lawyers... this happened in peru.  he's an uninjured, male tourist with a laughable hair cut... against a railroad company.  forget it jake, it's chinatown.

Well, there you go. Iron protruberance, just like I said.

Do you people have any idea what it does to innocent conductors when they hit jackass idiots like this guy? They get PTSD. They lose their ability to work, sometimes it breaks them as men.

Stay away from moving trains. Or trains that might move. How farking hard is it for people to understand that? There is momentum and power and forces in play that your mind literally cannot comprehend. Your body can be exploded in the blink of an eye.

There was a series of shots that didn't show that piece of metal and someone said it was probably the phone merging frames since the train was moving fast and the phone couldn't capture all of the frames the way they really are.
