Incredible. I could watch this for hours.

It's only a matter of time before EVERY fireworks display has a dozen or more quad copters buzzing around in the blast zone.  I guarantee that this year's NYC display will broadcast it from several aerial camera platforms.  I know several shows have used helium balloons already, so it's inevitable that remote piloted vehicles will become a staple.

I wonder what those quadcopter/drones go for? I mean, ready-to-fly and hooked up with a camera and gimble and everything. And preferable pre-assembled.

/I used to fly RC but did not like building them

I have seen too much. Video was a disappointment.

I'm with you. I was expecting the copter to actually go through the fireworks, not simply be closer and filming at a unique angle. I was hoping to see the fireworks from the perspective of a firework.

Cool! Thanks for the link!

Magical.  I love fireworks.  Now I know I should get out my ultralight for this coming July 4th.

I think that's a new slang for "1,200 US Dollars".

Unless it means 12 pretty girls, which is ok, too.

I like this idea.  With all the racket you can shoot down drones and nobody will be able to figure out who did it.

/still easier to kill the man driving the drone

There is (was?) a YouTube of a guy flying his R/C plane with video camera while his brothers tried to shoot it down with roman candles. No hits of course. Unguided. Some got close.

I prefer the drone video of guys shooting at it with a shotgun.  And it was a marketing video of all things.

The price, it looks like.

Overall, looks like a neat little device!

Why, oh why, do all these people that make these videos insist on adding crappy music like this?!?

Couldn't we have just heard the fireworks?

I was hoping it wouldn't be the case, or that I could find a link to the footage sans music....no luck so far

I'm thinking that either the camera on the copter didn't have sound, or if it did you'd mostly hear the rotors and wind.

The camera on my Heli-Max 1SQ V-Cam records video and stills (doesn't transmit video)
and in the video mode all you hear is the motors.
($130 inc. shipping)

Maybe the audio is for pre-launch and post crash comments by the operator.

Anyone else having issues with Vimeo lagging as all hells? The audio is fine, but the picture is slow.  even if I stop the video and let it load, and then restart it,  it still lags and stutters. I don't have that issue with any other video website, like youtube or wimp, etc.

And how long before they BECOME ILLEGAL!!!!

And how in the fark are the authorities gonna police it? Gonna be really interesting fun times these next 10 years when the price gets lower and lower. Like when cops try and stop a crowd of 50 people filming them during a violent arrest. But on a much grander scale.

Pretty sure ya don't even need to be in line-of-sight radio range. The guy who buzzed all those NYC landmarks was miles away, rigged up to a mobile phone network, wasn't he?

They should have used AC/DC, like they did in this video.

I'm with you on this.

As an explanation, I have two theories.

1:  They're doing it to annoy us

2:  They actually like that shiat.

Personally, I couldn't turn my speakers off fast enough when I heard the soundtrack.  This is why I actually usually keep my speakers off.

I would expect the volume of the fireworks at such a close range would have maxed out any normal microphone, leaving you with a very bad audio track.  That's assuming the mic didn't blow out entirely.

Me too. That word in the headline ('through') is very misleading.

It might not be fireworks, but here is Transformus X from a DJI Phantom.

Those of you wondering about raw audio,  Phantom quadcopters move quite a bit of wind and therefore are very noisy.   Raw audio from a GoPro on a Phantom is usually nothing more than a loud buzzing sound
