I hope the fact that he's turned his life around and is a positive contributor to society weighs heavily in his trial.

Most would be more upset with a man who was already married to someone else.

2014-04-22 05:18:45 AM
Leave it to the Daily Mail to give no pertinent details of the crime, for instance whether there's anything to substantiate his claim of defending his brother. That's irrelevant to them, the real story is that your next door neighbor or EVEN YOUR HUSBAND could be a murderer living under a false identity. Be afraid!

well this should be an interesting thread....

See now his mistake was he stopped before reaching the border. He should have kept on going to Zihuatanejo and maybe started a charter fishing service.

It'd have to weigh  really heavily to even just not immediately put him back on death row, since this would be his  second murder among other felonies and they already commuted a murder sentence once.  Plus, the first one was a double-murder of a married couple...

... yeah, I think he's pretty much used up all the leniency the system owes him and then some.

NobleHam: Leave it to the Daily Mail to give no pertinent details of the crime, for instance whether there's anything to substantiate his claim of defending his brother

The thing about committing a murder in Mexico while you're there under a false name, then running and hiding for 30 years, when you've already confessed to an entirely different double-murder, is that you've kind of removed any chance of anyone finding evidence supporting your pitiful excuse and your word alone probably isn't worth much.

2014-04-22 05:29:13 AM

Jim_Callahan: system owes him

Why would he be owed any leniency? This trash is an admitted murderer. The only thing he should have coming is a noose. Or chair. Or needle. Depending on the jurisdiction.

Except he committed a murder in Pennsylvania while living under his own name while on parole for committing a single murder of one half of a married couple whom he shot and served time for, then fled to Texas and lived under a false name. I know the source sucks, but these weren't exactly murky details. A guy on parole shoots someone, possibly in defense, panics and flees. Stupid but not necessarily scumbag behavior.

I had the explicable desire to punch one of the commenters on TFA who lists DFW as her location.  "Lol Don't do the crime if you can't do the time or however that goes lol"

Right.  Because multiple murder and a terrible surprise for the wife is farking funny isn't it you stupid [redacted]an [redacted] biatch?  It's a laugh a minute in that household.

All juries in the US should lean towards acquittal given the inherent unfair nature our system is now - just completely corrupt. He will be judged by a higher power, and if guilty, the verdict will be tougher than anything that can be doled out here on Earth.

Said juries should suffer the same fate. then, should they judge incorrectly.

Complete honesty is an absolute must in a relationship. Except when it means that it will upset the wife. In that case, a husband should just learn to keep his farking opinions to himself and stop judging the wife.

Good luck recruiting jurors - it's hard enough.

A few other things jurors should be empowered with:

a) The ability to question witnesses, attorneys, judges, court officials, law enforcement.
b) The right to demand evidence from an independent crime lab, and not the made-to-order "evidence" of state crime labs
c) The ability to fine, imprison, and disbar corrupt elements on the courts.

Just slightly swiffer than the latest batch of prosecutions for being posted to a concentration camp.

Now some DA in Harrisburg has to convince everyone that it's a good expenditure to have an old wheel chair bound black man hauled back for a trial. They might want to spend that money on pothole repair, since they're bankrupt.

He didn't commit any double murder, but yeah, one dude died of the wounds later.

But its quite apparent to me that the death penalty to you is all about petty revenge.

No, not unless one's definition of scumbag behavior includes being a convicted murderer who was subsequently in possession of a handgun and who fired a bullet into another person's body, in which case you can have your not necessarily back.

/yay now we get to pay for him to pay his debt to society

The funny part is at age 78 he has basically beaten the system. Instead of 33 years inside he might at most spend a couple until he dies. And that's even assuming it goes to trial and he is convicted because the evidence may be missing or key witnesses vague in their recollection or dead.

2014-04-22 08:19:57 AM
He shot the guy in the head while he was seated in his car. I guess that could be self defense, but I have doubts.

Also, I wish we had the details on the first murder, that his life sentence was commuted after just 11 years.

Situations like this are why I'm glad we have law and courts and lawyers. I don't want to be the one to judge this man, in and of myself.

Well unfortunately he's not far from the truth, especially when you have money. You get into a relationship and you risk her being a gold digger or maybe she will divorce and sue you for everything. As a rich man it's safer to love em an leave em. If you're not rich then those types of women will generally not even give you a second glance, so it's safer to assume that a woman who does take an interest is legitimately in love with you, not in it for money.
