All these sexual assault allegations against priests and preachers, republican politicians, and business people are highly scripted false flag operations perpetrated by liberal atheists in order to discredit Christianity. Well good luck libs. Jesus is more powerful than you'll ever know. Judgement day is coming.

Who cares how many children are still getting sexually assaulted by priests? Pope Francis is still awesome.

Are "Jesus is more powerful than you'll ever know" and "Judgement day is coming" intentional double entendres, or just Freudian slips?

harrydorcas: The accusers never get tired until the accused is judged guilty.

Actually, it sounds like the investigation was dropped solely because he resigned, as some sort of informal deal with the Sheriff's office or just because it wasn't worth the effort of building a case with him no longer in a position to abuse.  He was  never actually cleared by any law enforcement authority, only by the Church's internal performance review guys.

He was reinstated, though, so the original investigation is resuming because it's now worth the Sheriff's time and effort again to get him away from his pool of victims.  The additional accuser is actually being added to the same case, it's not a separate charge in the broader sense so much as another "count".

// Would have been nice had they put this in TFA so I didn't have to go to farkin' Google to find out what was actually happening here.  Just enough to red-flag the article as probably either misleading or an intentional lie (withholding an accusation just to spam someone with court cases is actually in itself illegal).

Homosexual pedophiles are everywhere and will use legit organizations of any kind as a front for their activities.
Jerry Sandusky was hardly the only one.

One of the saddest bits of the pedo priest stories, is, aside from the alleged diddling, when my Mother in law was still alive, at church, they'd have 2 collections, one for the church, and another for the settlements. Back in 1958, she converted to catholic, because she wanted to marry my father in law. She said of the two collections "I converted for this?"

Does make you think. Which is worse, the fact you have priests sexually assaulting children on a regular basis -- enough that it becomes a stereotypical joke in pop culture (and has been for decades or more, even before the internet), or the fact you have people that have their arm twisted into going to church and paying up at the collection plates so they can be married to the person they love?

How do people even justify that to themselves? How do you sit in church and willingly turn a blind eye to the fact that there's a collection plate specifically for settling child rape cases? How do people just shrug and say, "Meh, that's just part of the Catholic Church." when it comes to pre-adolescent choir boys getting sexually assaulted on a regular basis?

This kind of thing just makes me want to go full on Lewis Black.

The catholic church is one of those things that make me understand completely why Lewis Black is the way he is. It's like you're the only person in the world who sees something so completely obvious and you're angry because nobody else does -- nor do they care.

I think I'd prefer DayQuil and NyQuil though. Because your cold doesn't give a fark what time of day it is. ;)

That's apparently a misinterpretation that the church has been spreading (or, rather, the false implication that "we didn't have enough to secure charges" is the same thing as an exoneration is):

http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/iteam&id=9504737 :

"But according to sheriff's spokesperson Cara Smith, while the police investigation was thorough, it wasn't aimed at exonerating the priest and that no determination on the credibility of the allegation was made. According to sheriff's investigators, there simply was not enough evidence to go forward. Said Smith: "Unfortunately, we couldn't secure charges.""

I hear they make a lovely eggnog as well. And they're red and green, which are Christmas colors. Yeah, my friends were biatching about how it tasted like sh*t, but we all slept pretty goddamned well that night.

OK, FTFY

Doesn't have the quite the same anti-atheist punch to it now. What should I do to make your strawman feel better?

You'd think a level of morality would be present in the bible that wouldi help prevent priests from molesting kids. Honestly I've seen more morality in the 11 rules of Lutheran Satanism. They at least have a commandment that pretty much says "do not rape." Guess the Bibble left that out......

I have been to several weddings and baptisms over which father O'Connell presided.  Having met the guy I really hope these accusations are false.  He always seemed like a good guy to me.

Fun fact - 10 years or so this guy was pretty into weight lifting.  He was the first priest I ever saw that looked like he worked as a bouncer on the weekends.  He looked like he could beat the Christ into you,

Here's to hoping he didn't beat anythng into anyone...

I'm not generally a apologist for the Bible, but I would think that the "no sex outside of marriage" rules would cover most of these cases and that, in fact, pedophile kiddie-rapers are likely to do it regardless of what's in whichever holy book they claim to believe in.

Except other sects' priests are allowed to get married. That makes all the difference.

Pretty much. That's why the John Jay Report found the rate of pedophilia among catholic priests to be equivalent to the rate among non-catholic clergy, and just a bit lower than the rate in the general population.
