Lowering your Comcast bill is easy: call them up and tell them you want to cancel because the cost is too high.  They always, ALWAYS throw you a deal to keep you from leaving.

Buchanan and Spraggins allegedly paid off a Comcast employee to obtain login credentials that gave them direct access to the company's billing system.

Nice security Lou!

Same happened to me. This for the most part was their response:
www.nowcultured.com

They then tried to RAISE my bill by offering me shiatty cable tv that I'd never watch to bundle with my internet. I wish they weren't the only ISP in the area that didn't randomly drop service every few minutes.

Try using their online customer service chat.  Ask for "presyo kaibigan".  A lot of their customer service is in the Philippines so you just have to try a couple times until you get someone that will give you a deal.  Has worked fine for me, many of my co-workers, and family.

I tried that with Optimum.  I wanted to lower my bill once the intro period expired on the triple play package.  I asked if they could keep me on the intro pricing, they refused.  I had them transfer me to their disconnections department, and cut out the phone and dropped the cabletv to the basic package.

A week later, I received a phone call from their marketing department asking me to sign up for the triple play for a year at the intro pricing.

I did this for 7 years in a row.  The longest it ever took to get a phone call activating it again was 2 weeks.

I lowered my DirecTV bill by 100%. I was paying $140/mo just for tv. They had an advertised offer for $25/mo for new subscribers. I called and asked for that and said I would waive the HBO discount if they agreed. Unsurprisingly they refused. I was offered something around $45/mo but I was sticking to my guns.
I planned to cancel and wait for them to try to woo me back. The only problem was once I cancelled, I realized how little I needed it. I got an antenna and use my wife's Netflix account on my tv.
4 months and about 10 offers for $25/mo later I won't be going back. A year ago I would have said you were crazy if you said I'd be able to go without cable.

/I highly recommend Movies channel. Some great old movies. And plenty of amusing old person commercials.

We're under contract with DirecTV until July, unfortunately.

At that point, we'll drop it.  Wife doesn't even need it, since everything she wants is on Netflix.  I only use it for football season, and I can watch football at the bar (which is where I watch it 70% of the time anyway).

Yeah, that hasn't worked in years. Last time I tried the guy actually came back with, "well I'm looking at what all your neighbors are paying and their costs are about the same as yours. We wouldn't want to be unfair." Comcast telling me about playing fair...get farked.

Comcast  is the only bill I have that I pay with a paper check for SHEAR SPITE!!!!!

I'm willing to pay for the stamp just to deny their non-stop requests for paperless billing.

If you cut out the phone, how'd you take their call?

One thing I did when I cut the cord was put money into building a library on Vudu, absolutely love their service. That and Hulu cover my TV time now.

Comcast got me to add cable becuase the price of internet was going up because the introductory pricing was expiring. so I got "hundreds of channels" and faster internet for $65 total.

What they didn't tell me was those hundreds of channels didn't include TBS, TNT, HGTV, any of the sports channels and countless other basic cable channels. And when I upgraded, I specifically asked if ESPN was included. So fark them.

hej

In other news, the amount Comcast charges for service is completely arbitrary.

Enjoy that while you can. If they get that merger, the next time you say you are thinking of leaving, you'll hear the sound of them massaging their nipples over the phone.

Depends. Last year I brought my DVRs back to the Comcast Service Center in my town, and said I wanted to drop their television service, keeping only the cable internet service still running. They asked me why, and I told them they were too expensive, and I'm streaming everything I want to see on my Roku.

The attendant didn't even offer to lower my bill to keep me on their TV service, just processed my request and that was it. Another Comcast employee told me they were seeing a lot of people dropping to Internet-only and using streaming services and devices for their TV instead.

I'm saving $135/month this way, and I will never go back to Comcast for television.

They will always be competing with DirecTV and Dish, so there is that threat to their revenue stream.

I've called Comcast a number of times and asked for a better deal. I usually just say that I want to save some money and they could save me the trouble of shopping their competitors. For me, it's worked, but I've been a subscriber for 10 years or so now. Maybe there's some internal rating system they use for customers.

I'm usually saving a good $70 or so off the 'retail' rate.

Only works if the area you are in has other operators.  If you are in a Comcast monopoly area then you are SOL and will get nothing from them.

Man, its so easy to go without cable these days. All i need to do is sign up and pay for Hulu, Nextflix, AmazonPrime, NHL Online, MLB Online, and buy a roku box, and i can pay the same as i was before without the hassle of only dealing with a single bill and not worrying about bandwidth that i consume, even though i am already paying that came cable/fiber/sat company for the internet connection.

2014-04-22 11:20:27 AM
They didn't lower my bill.  They charged me extra for a HD box.  Then they came along a year later and raised the bill another $10 for supplying the HD signal.  I went to lower cost options with other providers.

I am not a local sports fanatic. I used to watch the Caps play when nothing else was on. I can't stand baseball or pro basketball, and football is on the local channels - which, if it wasn't (except TNF and MNF which run too late for me to watch anyway) I would have to come up with something else.
