They didn't need to put it all on the line to risk it. They could have still won with a field goal.

Yeah, but they were our last chance at OT last night. We got jobbed. Jobbed I say.

I demand bonus hockey!

I don't know if the Sharks are really this good or are just setting up their collapse in epic fashion this year.

All I know is they're royally farking up my pools. I was expecting underachievement from the start.

Yeah, but they needed to run up the score to impress the BCS pollsters.

I'll root for them to lose as long as they keep wearing those black garbage bags in the playoffs. Wear your real uniforms, for fark's sake. Teams shouldn't be allowed to wear 3rd jerseys in the playoffs unless they've committed to wearing them full time the next year.

San Jose against LA is a home-game series. LA will win at home.

I don't like ugly things- aesthetics matter. I'm sure you'd be just as happy living right next to a burnt out factory as you would living right next to a park, for instance.

The uniforms are ugly, it's a crass marketing ploy, and the trend of black uniforms has been driven by a desire to look more tough and manly, because some meatheads think that vibrant colors make you less virile. There's plenty to dislike.

I don't disagree about the Black For Black's Sake (TM - Uni Watch), but on the other hand, it's a good thing to get away from the teal that EVERY 90's expansion team and uniform change went to by default.

Team in Los Angeles changes their colors to silver and black to piggyback on the Raiders' popularity, goes through 20 years of shiatty uniform redesigns, goes back to black because of nostalgia for when the team was a contender: OK

Team in San Jose, which has always used black as a primary uniform color (pants), uses the same all-black strip for three playoffs in a row because it's popular with the players: thisisanoutrage.jpg

Thanks, Fark.

The Sharks were the only ones to ever use that teal in the NHL, though, and adopted it before it became a huge trend. You can't really hold the fact that a trend later became overplayed against them. Teal has become their iconic look, and they have had almost universally good uniforms using teal as a main color, while every black jersey they've rolled out has looked like garbage, at least to my eye.

The teal looks good, and in the NHL, it's unique. Plus, given that they're technically a direct successor to the Seals, who wore the same color for a time, it's even more appropriate.

Boston pulls the black sweater off well and I guess Pittsburgh does too because they're basically Boston colors.  Every other black uniform looks like the marketers just threw them out there so their team had a 3rd jersey to sell.  I really liked LA's previous purple and gold uniform with the ornate crown logo.

I honestly really dislike the Bruins third sweater. All black with no contrast and the bear patch on the chest is mediocre. If they want to go back to a bear patch might as well use the so bad it is awesome Winnie the Pooh bear.

The first jersey I owned (ages 7'ish to 10'ish) was a Bruins late '60s mustard jersey.  (my dog ate it).  That was an awesome look.  Much better than the current black third jersey.

I also agree on the bear patch.
I know it's supposed to be semi-throwback but it's kinda lame.

Their backup is a rookie. He did play in game 1. Only faced like 4 shots. Chance are Sutter will stay with Quick.

The problem isn't really Quick, it's lack of speed on LA's part and the fact that SJ's 3rd and 4th line are dominating LA's whole team.

Kopitar, Williams, Gaborik, and Carter haven't showed up yet.

SJ is playing like the Kings did the year the Kings won the cup. They are just mowing down players every time they touch the puck, forechecking and driving the net. LA has no answer right now and if they don't start hitting back (without going to the box) and if Sutter doesn't get Greene off the ice, then this is going to be a very short series.

Yeah, I never liked that one at all.

Now the winter classic sweaters, those should be the alternates. I really liked those.

I'm a Penguin's fan from their first season. BUT, as much as I love the team, I'm really getting disillusioned with their arrogance. I'll still always love the Pens (especially once the off-season massacre happens), but I think I need a second team to root for. I'm digging the Sharks. Plus, I've got a place up in Northern Cal.

Exactly. If you're gonna rant about one of those two teams sporting black, go after LA and their Raider crap. They really, really need to go back to the purple and gold full time. Bring out the silver and blacks as a third.

Plan on drinking whiskey tonight. Unlike you chumps, I don't drink a few and claim I was drunk. I binge like your Uncle Sammy at the track. So if I'm incoherent by the Avs game or yelling at you for something none of us can understand, that's why. Chances are I'll wander off from this thread long before that point, though. However, you've been warned.

While seeing the purple and golds as an occasional retro thing is nice, they were a little too much, and I think the kings were right to move away from it. They've built themselves a history with that color as their primary identity, no half assed 'we're purple and gold, really, but here's our kickass black jersey'. They did a complete re-branding and built a coherent identity around the black and gray during the gretzky years. Also, the jerseys look good. They tried to bring back the purple later while keeping the black, and looked like shiat. The new ones going to all black and gray work well, IMO. I'm fine with black if that's your primary identity and it's well executed. Black can be done well, and I think the Kings are and example. But when it comes across as a gimmick, like the Sharks,

Someone certainly has their cerise panties INA bunch over this. But you're right, black wouldn't be any more manly.
