I've asked my reps, why this (the over hopping) is going on. First you get the official answer; "It makes a distinctive product that discerning drinkers can easily differentiate from the others."But for them what i think it's about is the fact that IPA's ship and store better. Something about the hops. On the consumer side it's like the hot sauce crowd. "Look what I can tolerate!" It becomes a status symbol to be able to drink an ale that literally tastes like a grapefruit it is so hoppy.
