I'm guessing these maybe gang related. Maybe.

So outlaw gangs.

Enact a dress code in these high crime areas and use deadly force to make it happen.

HawgWild: FDR Jones: HawgWild: Nabb1: HawgWild: fusillade762: Any of them come back?

It's actually two.

Today, tomorrow, the next day. Three days.

As you may have noticed, I didn't say 72 hours.

So when someone says two days, they mean tomorrow. Got it.

No. It just means today and tomorrow are two days.

Here, let's count them together.

1. Today
2. Tomorrow

See? Two days.

Why is this so difficult?!

Congratulations: this is possibly the silliest argument I've seen on Fark in a long time.  Can we fight over why the Hobbits didn't walk to Mordor instead?

FloridaFarkTag: Gee...maybe if they didn't ban guns...

What an absurd argument. MO was one of the first places to legalize CCW's and yet parts of St. Louis and KC still look like something out of Logan's Run.

Chicago would still be a violent place with or without banning guns.

It sucks to live here sometimes. Whole swaths of the city are neglected. Tiny Dancer (aka F-bomb Rahm) is buying coffee for guys moving a railroad bridge for a bike trail (a worthy enterprise, don't get me wrong) but why isn't he also in a squad cruising Englewood or Little Village and getting a first-hand look at the blood on the sidewalks and meeting with the grieving families? For every one murder that's Darwin-earned (gang-banging associated) there's another one that's an innocent, and a loss to our future. The city doesn't end west of Western or south of Cermak. You wanna be Mayor? BE MAYOR. Get out there, Farker. You're personally worth MILLIONS. Pull a Bloomberg, if you have to. Do SOMETHING. At the very least, act like you pretend like you almost maybe kinda care. Your appointment book of campaign donors can wait a week or two. IMHO, this is slightly more important.

Just so I have the argument correct...  When 9 people are killed and 26 wounded in a mass shooting in a red state: "Can we FINALLY address the problems with too many guns?"  But when it happens over the course of a weekend in a blue state: "Meh."

Well, it has been established that giant eagles can't even outfly mounted old model orcs enough to give any sort of decent lead. Trying to fly someone into Mordor would just let Sauron know they're coming and be waiting for them.

Not when the time-span is an entire weekend.

I like and endorse that whole approach. I do take issue with one small point though. The loss of life is horrible, and the innocent loss of life is far worse. However that ratio is a little off. Something like 80% of Chicago homicide victims have an extensive arrest record (The ones shooting are around 90%). The people being shot are, by and large, not innocent angels. Chicago, probably the state and feds too, has a lot of work to do to drive those numbers down and prevent the death of people you are talking about.

The larger point being that the Mayor - who lives in one of the best neighborhoods in the city (Ravenswood) and was voted in by a large majority of north-siders - seems to ignore the south and west sides. At least Daley paid lip-service to the representatives of those areas. RE just plain ignores them, and/or shuts them out. And thus leading by example, the residents of the north side seem to ignore all other areas. "If it bleeds, it leads". But is quickly forgotten.

We are a city as a whole, or we're not.

It's gotten to the point where there are -two- Chicagos, and rarely do the twain meet. That does not bode well for our future. For though unseen, we are dependent on each other.

Good, it won't affect the gun violence problem either way, fighting against law-abiding gun owners has been a pointless distraction from everything else wrong with the city. For too long politicians have shifted the blame and scapegoated guns as a way to avoid addressing the underlying issues.

But Rahm despite being just as fiscally reckless as Daley will get voted in easily in 2015 because white Chicagoans love his personality.  Chicagoans are suckers for the whole "tough choices" mantra.  Of course not a single "tough choice" will ever effect anyone north of Roosevelt or east of Western, but still they'll praise him for it.  I'd love to say Chicagoans deserve better, but they prove time and again they don't.

You're right, I don't live in Chicago, been there once when I was a kid(loved the Museum of Science and Industry). But I see from that map some guns were imported into the city from my native state of Arizona. I don't think the reasons for using the guns in crimes in Chicago were also imported from Arizona or Vermont or Alaska or.... I'm sorry but when the blame is shifted to every other state in the country and everywhere else but Chicago it starts to get a little old for the rest of us too. I'll fully concede that you know more about the problem and how best to fix it than I do, as long as I'm not being blamed for it just because I legally own a gun or two.

If - as Chuck D said - that rap is the CNN of the hood, then here's a dispatch from the South Side:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj3eZQigvsI&feature=kp

"Why you think they don't talk about it? They deserted us here
Where the f*** Matt Lauer at? Somebody get Katie Couric in here
Probably scared of all the refugees; look like we had a fu***n' hurricane here
They'll be shooting whether it's dark or not, I mean the days is pretty dark a lot
Down here, it's easier to find a gun than it is to find a f**king parking spot
No love for the opposition, specifically a cop position
Cause they've never been in our position
Getting violations for the nation, correlating, you dry snitchin'

I know you scared, you should ask us if we scared too
I know you scared... me too
I know you scared, you should ask us if we scared too
If you was there, then we'd just knew you cared too
It just got warm out, this the shiat I've been warned 'bout
I hope that it storm in the morning, I hope that it's pourin' out
I hate crowded beaches, I hate the sound of fireworks
And I ponder what's worse between knowing it's over and dying first
Cause everybody dies in the summer
Wanna say ya goodbyes, tell them while it's spring
I heard everybody's dyin' in the summer
So pray to God for a little more spring
"

We won't know for a few days. Three, if my calculations are correct.

It's actually two.

Today, tomorrow, the next day. Three days.

As you may have noticed, I didn't say 72 hours.

Died on Friday, still dead Saturday, rose on Sunday (or since Passover fell on Friday the year Jesus was crucified, and that is a Sabbath, there were two Sabbath days in a row, meaning Jesus's crucifixion took place on Thursday afternoon - a Sabbath starts at sundown the night before - not Friday, and that he rose Saturday. A quibbling detail, but very interesting). In fact, I think it was discovered the stone to the tomb had been moved in the morning, which would put the time between death and resurrection at less than 48 hours.

Exactly. Three days. How is this unclear?

Because normal people don't count "1" until a whole "1" has occured.

Ancient Jews apparently thought differently.

Using raw numbers is a classic lie with statistics game.
It doesnt mean that something shouldnt be done to reduce murder rates, but it means that "OMG Chicago has so many murders" is just bullshiat.
It is even a more egregious lie when you consider that the murder rate is down for that last 30 years and falling.
