TerminalEchoes: drunk_bouncnbaloruber: So...a bunch of Baby Boomers being selfish at the expense of everyone around them?

Must be a day ending in "y".

One day, we'll be the age the baby boomers are now. Call me crazy (and of course at least one of you will), but I'm about 80% sure we'll be just as selfish. And why? Because we worked our butts off for 50 years and don't want to see the younger, lazier generations taking it all away from us because "boo hoo life isn't fair."

God, I hope not.( I've known for a long time that the World does not revolve around me, unlike many of my Boomer relatives...)

Me too.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_X#Characteristics_and_defini ti on

"Compared with previous generations, Generation X represents a more apparently heterogeneous generation, openly acknowledging and embracing social diversity in terms of such characteristics as race, class, religion, ethnicity, culture, language, gender identity, and sexual orientation.[29]

Unlike their parents who challenged leaders with an intent to replace them, Gen Xers are less likely to idolize leaders and are more inclined to work toward long-term institutional and systematic change through economic, media and consumer actions.[32]"

Cape Coral is filled with crotchety old retired people who have nothing better to do than biatch and complain about everything.  They fight tooth and nail against any kind of industry moving into the city, anything that encourages more young families to move in, and generally try to make life difficult for anyone who isn't content to sit quietly and wait to die.

It's not the noise you need to worry about, it's all the assholes parked all over the place.

"so that means you're going to have bands, you're going to have noise and you're going to have a lot of traffic,"

Hi, welcome to America. You must be new here.

I'm already 50 and so far I'm not selfish or upset that anyone coming after me will have the things I worked for. Of course, I have nothing so that might be part of it; but those of us on the leading edge of Gen X at least are much less selfish and greedy than the trailing edge of Boomers that preceeded us.

Gyrfalcon: TV's Vinnie: Florida neighbors upset about new park because: C) Rich People might actually use it rent it and no one else can use it

Nope.

"My big concern is losing quality of life, because the park is going to be rented out on occasions -- so that means you're going to have bands, you're going to have noise and you're going to have a lot of traffic," said neighbor Bill Tirelli.

Sounds to me like he'd be just as happy if someone rented it and nobody else DID use it. He really is pissed that there will be people in the park making noise and going there.

Eh.

I took it that they were mainly concerned/upset that there would be large events/parties there, not the every day use.  Especially when the church was wanting to add an amphitheater.

I used to live kind of near a park.  Never noticed it unless they were having a concert.  The band noise was fairly horrible from my apartment, all you could really hear was a dull rhythmic buzz and occasionally some fragments of vocals when the singer got overly excited.

Wasn't that hard to cope with, could just walk over and listen to it clearly, or go do something elsewhere for a few hours.

Ha I used to work inspections on Florida planned subdivisions, like a decade ago. They'd always put up some silly fake playground in the middle of an intersection, before the houses were even built, to give an illusion of family-friendliness.

Then dipshiats bought crappy houses in the middle of nowhere and now are the people I have to watch out for from road rage.

Because, suckers.

Sounds a lot like Pinky's Point Park in Hamilton County, TN.  This littered, mostly abandoned park, that was basically a shiathole, forgotten by most county residents.

A nonprofit wanted to build hiking and mountain biking trails in the park, and an ultimate Frisbee group, wanted to put in a course, and the county initially agreed.  The nonprofit even held a clean up day at the park and picked up litter.  They had a group of volunteers to start the actual construction. Even had the trails flagged through the woods.  A local bike shop was ready to donate funds to help cover the costs.  (In fact this whole project was either covered by donated funds or volunteer work, costing the county absolutely zero!)  Even had restaurants to donate food to feed the volunteers.

That was UNTIL a few people that live long Nelson Spur Road objected, including the then head of the Hamilton County Republican Party.  Then it was...

That was years ago.  Absolutely nothing has been done since.  So, the park is still a largely unused over grown shiat hole.
