Jim_Callahan: The same problem caused a recall of nearly 386,000 older Ford Escapes earlier this month. The Escape and Tribute are nearly identical vehicles.... wait, Mazda owns Ford, or is it the other way around?Huh. Apparently ford owned about 1/3 of Mazda (controlling interest) since the mid-90s and manufactured the bulk of US Mazdas until 2008-2010, where Ford divested because the Mazda brand was dragging their main brands down (the 2007 financial crash hit a lot of Asian companies harder than US companies). I did not know that, guess I learned something today.// Apparently the divestment was a good move since Mazda damn near disappeared as a brand and had to sell out to Sumitomo, one of the big four Zaibatsu, just to keep the doors open. Further confirmation that Ford is the only US auto company that knows what the fark it's doing.

lennavan: AverageAmericanGuy: American manufacturing rears its ugly head again. My 1996 GM manufactured car with 170,000 miles runs great. The only rust issues are with the exhaust system (straight pipe just got a small hole for the first time, makes it a teenie louder, i'll replace it soon), which of course after 18 winters with salted roads is expected.Basically what I'm saying is American made is always crap.
