Red Shirt Blues: Good ... man ... Stop believing ... his assault or robbery victims...Hurricane ...boxing...Army ...that movie.......

Prior bad acts don't count. You don't get convicted of a crime just because you have committed crimes in the past.

You know this. Don't be a dick. Sometimes horrible injustice happens to the imperfect. Doesn't make it any less horrible or unjust.

QuesoDelicioso: Not surprised he lived out the rest of his days in Canada. After what this country's alleged "justice" system did to him, I'd have given us the bird and walked too.

That, plus the team that did most of the work to get him freed were Canadian.

Good riddance to a man properly convicted. Stop believing movies. Ask  any of his assault or robbery victims before  and after his release. Or abut the times he got all stabby. Giardello sued the movie makers and won. Hurricane was not close to winning the belt. He was on his way out of boxing when the murders occurred.  Thrown out of the Army after four courts-martial. Don't believe that movie.......

This story hardly ends, as we still have racially motivated, railroaded convictions happening all the time in this country.

And thanks to our friends on the Supreme Court we have even more protections for the prosecutors to insulate them from punishment when they are caught fixing the evidence.

Nothing really changes.

You tragically ineffectual little turd.

You imbecilic naive maroon. Go and read the actual witness statements, especially Patty Valentine. Not the Hurricane's version or the Canadiens version but the actual statements. The same with the police reports. Start with why he was pulled over in the first place.

Myths about Ruben Carter.

/Hmmm,,,,,

FTL

This website, on the other hand, demonstrates that the evidence Carter provides to "prove" he was harassed and framed, is bogus

What's cute is they never actually provide any evidence, they just say they have.

Worth reading in this context, I think.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubin_Carter

It is correct to say, as is asserted on the website, that Carter was never exonerated.  He was tried twice and convicted twice (mainly on the testimony of two not necessarily reliable eyewitnesses).  Both convictions were subsequently thrown out, and after the second one got tossed, prosecutors decided not to try Carter a third time, twenty years having elapsed since the crime.

I'm not denying that part, just pointing out that the website claims it has evidence that Carter was never harassed or framed but never provide it.  Carter certainly wasn't an angel by any stretch, but it just bugs me when people try to counter what they say are unsubstantiated claims with similar unsubstantiated claims.

What I didn't know about Carter--tip of the hat to Gung Fu for the inspiration to look this up--was that his boxing career was on the downswing--badly--after he lost that decision to Joey Giardello for the middleweight title.

CSB:  I was taken to see Joey Giardello speak when I was a kid.

/I still think that Carter may have had more to do with the triple murder at the Lafayette Grill than he would have had us believe.
//not enough evidence there to convict him beyond a reasonable doubt, though.

How long before someone jumps in here to argue that because the movie got some stuff wrong, Rubin is actually guilty.

That's the other side of his story. Don't cry over it that someone will point it out instead of the 'whitewash' version of the story that lived in pop culture.

With that title & the story coming from the BBC I thought that the last WW2 Hurricane pilot had died. In a completely different way this is just as sad. RIP Hurricane.

/they're probably getting close on the pilot issue too if it hasn't arrived yet.  Time marches on & anyone who flew in the Battle of Britain would be at a minimum 92 so....
