All week long, a montage of TV crime solvers popped in my head, arriving at Kings Landing to investigate.

Kojak, Barnaby Jones, the Harts, Starsky & Hutch, Bones & Booth, Veronica Mars, Jessica Fletcher, to name a few. All in Westeros garb.

You know you could solve it all if you just read the books. Would you like a hint?

I can understand reading them before watching the show.  Or after.  But during is not something I'd ever want to do.  It's like intentionally trying to dampen your enjoyment of both simultaneously.

I've kinda had the big "O" early in the season.

It's going to take a few episodes to get me built up again.

2014-04-20 12:11:11 PM

Johnny Texas: Cersei better step up her game now that Joffrey is gone.   This show needs a clear villain and with that little shiat gone, we have none.

"Clear villain"?  That's not how the Game of Thrones works.

Johnny Texas: Marcus Aurelius: "Clear villain"?  That's not how the Game of Thrones works.

Ok then, it needs someone to hate.

Cersei's kind of a biatch

A hot biatch, but a biatch all the same

There are plenty of candidates for that among the Lannisters, the Boltons, among others.

But I shouldn't need to warn you: some of the more obvious candidates for the obvious villain role may not do what you expect. See, eg: Jaime Lannister.

Johnny Texas: gilgigamesh: There are plenty of candidates for that among the Lannisters, the Boltons, among others.

Nobody on the level of Joffrey though.   Maybe somebody will rise to the occasion, but it's going to take a lot to top that little dick bag.

Why would you want someone to top him.

I've been reading fantasy for 30 years and I'm not sure I can think of a more hateful character. Sure, there's worse in scale, worse in intent; even in Game of Thrones itself, but just the sheer calculated awfulness he displays is something GRRM did for Joffery that few authors ever did for any villain. He's worse than Aaron the Moor, who in dying said:

O, why should wrath be mute, and fury dumb?
I am no baby, I, that with base prayers
I should repent the evils I have done:
Ten thousand worse than ever yet I did
Would I perform, if I might have my will;
If one good deed in all my life I did,
I do repent it from my very soul.

I haven't read the books but I know what happens tonight. It's Easter. Spoiler: Joffrey makes a comeback. Book it, done. Sorry if I ruined it for you. Shouldn't have read past the spoiler alert, suckers.

That's going to be nothing compared to next season when the ghost of Ned Stark appears and kills Melisandre and Stannis during a "Lord of Light" ceremony.

Now you're just being ridiculous. Stark comes back as a wight, not a ghost.

Moron.

No no, it's Arya who comes back as the wight after the Hound kills her. Ned comes back as a Lich.

Agreed... I'm not reading 100,000 pages of novels to spoil a show I enjoy.

Plus, I expect if anything really bad was to happen to Tyrion, they'll change it because he is the only joy in such a dark show.

I kind of have a thing for Melisandre. reminds me of my wife, minus the smoky vagina killer monster of course. well I hope so at least. Scary redhead pyscho biatches appear to be my thing.

This... This is what I'm talking about. This is what I mean when I'm talkin' about time, and death, and futility. all right there are broader ideas at work, mainly what is owed between us as a society for our mutual illusions. 14 straight hours of staring at DB's, these are the things ya think of.

You ever done that? You look in their eyes, even in a picture, doesn't matter if they're dead or alive, you can still read 'em.

www.independent.co.uk

You know what you see? They welcomed it... not at first, but... right there in the last instant. It's an unmistakable relief. See, cause they were afraid, and now they saw for the very first time how easy it was to just... let go. Yeah they saw, in that last nanosecond, they saw... what they were.

uproxx.files.wordpress.com

You, yourself, this whole big drama, it was never more than a jerry rig of presumption and dumb will, and you could just let go. To finally know that you didn't have to hold on so tight. To realize that all your life, all your love, all your hate, all your memories, all your pain, it was all the same thing. It was all the same dream, a dream that you had inside a locked room, a dream about being a person.

d1mxyp5ceukbya.cloudfront.net

And like a lot of dreams, there's a monster at the end of it.

That's awesome, whenever I'm watching tributes to recently departed celebrities I'll now have Joffrey's retrospective to measure them against.
Sure they were wonderful but were they as wonderful as Joffrey?

Bob Falfa: You know you could solve it all if you just read the books. Would you like a hint?

You really don't need to. My wife and I figured it out just by following the cup and watching who it landed next to before he made his final, fatal drink. There's only one person who both hated Joffrey and wanted to protect one of his/her family members from him, and had the cup close to them when everyone was distracted by other things happening. We checked the wikis and found we were correct in our educated guess, at least in regards to the person who was actually at the wedding.

Where I live, in the summer, the fog pretty much stops at the shore.  Sunny on the beach, but boats less than 100 yards out are completely hidden by fog.
