Not everything is to be done for mere economic profit.

Ya know, the families of the dead would like the bodies for proper burial if possible, that whole closure thing.

pfft. Obama spends that on a day of golf. It's not cheap getting aircraft carriers into a water hazard.

I wonder how long they'll actually keep up the search.

You can't put a price on name recognition like this.  Who ever heard of this airline before this.  Now when I'm looking for flights Malaysia Airlines is my first stop.  Think about out no airline is going to lose a second jumbo jet so they're good.

And a lot of people want to know what makes a 777 go silent and abruptly turn left to make a long arc out into a remote patch of ocean. It's important particularly for the owners of several billion dollars' worth of flying equipment.

I am sure the makers of the equipment are keenly interested as well.

I would have desire of knowing what it is like to be the unattractive person for the day but do not have the luxury of this. Let China do the payment of this.

oryx: Unanswered question. Who pays?

As long as it is not the air carriers and they don't have to pay compensation to the family, all is good to keep looking.

FTFA quarter of a billion U.S. dollars if private companies are used

So what will it cost if public resources are used?  I bet its still a quarter of a million dollars.  Perhaps much more.

/stupid comment is stupid

maybe if Malaysia had mentioned something about it not being on its original course the first week it wouldn't cost as much.

You know, CNN could save a lot of money by giving them an autographed picture of the President.  The anchors would probably believe that's more valuable than an actual paycheck.

I just came here to say "DIAF and EABOD subby". I have no problem with the headline being inaccurate for a laugh but being inaccurate out of laziness or for trollbait is stupid. Whoever does the greening, please also EABOD.

I saw the article on CNN or Yahoo talking about "Why are Americans so fascinated with the search for MH370?"...

We're not... CNN and Yahoo are fascinated with this because it gives them something to blather on about until the next Miley Cyrus outrage moment at a concert, or the next Kardassian krisis moment or...

I'd be happy if they update us on when they've found it or STFU....
