That sounds awesome, Maggie.  My grandfather had a farm near the Oklahoma/Texas border in southeast Oklahoma, where it's starting to get woody and hilly.   I loved it.  Someday, I want to buy a place with a little land probably in coastal Texas or near to the gulf coast somewhere.

the current one is the replacements from The Sh*t Hits The Fans, recorded live and drunk in Oklahoma City in 1984:

The sh*t Hits the Fans is a Twin/Tone Records (TTR 8443) cassette-only live album by The Replacements which was released January 25, 1985. It was recorded live at The Bowery, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on November 11, 1984. The cassette J-Card cover art is by Chris Mars. According to the Twin/Tone website, 10,000 copies were produced, of which 9,276 sold immediately. The rest were given away as promotional copies.
The source of The sh*t Hits the Fans is a Maxell XL II-S audio cassette. Roscoe Shoemaker, manager and DJ at The Bowery asked Paul Westerberg, whom he knew from previous gigs at The Bowery, if he minded if he recorded the show, to which Westerberg replied, "Why? We suck." Shoemaker hung two microphones from the front of the deejay booth and recorded the show, which was performed in front of approximately 30 patrons. After the show, Shoemaker went to a party to see the band off as they left Oklahoma City before returning to Minneapolis. When Shoemaker went back to the club, the cassette tape was missing. According to soundman Terry Katzman, the tape was confiscated by sound man Bil Mack, who claimed to have confiscated it from a fan. The audio dropout heard during "Hear You Been to College" is caused by Paul Westerberg who accidentally pressed the record button on a Walkman while listening back to the master copy. If you listen closely he can be heard saying "Stop, 's' enough".
Of the twenty-four songs on the album only five songs are actually written by the band. The remaining nineteen are cover versions of songs by other artists.
The Bowery, the venue where this performance took place, was bulldozed to the ground on March 22, 2007.

back in '86 my parent's bought a house on 27 acres and I became a country girl and the 8 in GA was my grandmother but the original house was killed buy a near miss from an EF4 tornado back in '08, '09? So we rebuilt a cute little what has ended up 2 bedroom and 3 bath house and I've designed and installed the landscaping and add more every year.

soosh: WI241TH, I am 816 miles by road and ferry from Knik.  I have driven through there, though.  What does your friend do there?

Wow, didn't realize it was that far. She trains dogs, during the summer she leads expeditions from cruise ships. I think she travels/moves to Juneau for part of the year.

That reminds me of the first time I learned about 420. Some dude in a chat room way back in my eary internetting days told me he practiced the religion of 420...every day at 4:20 he smoked a bowl and said a prayer. lol. I thought that sounded so cool.

I know that there are people who do dogsled tours on the Juneau Icefield during tourist season.  There are mountains here that rise from behind town 3,000 feet, and right behind them is an icefield that is 1,500 square miles, larger than Rhode Island.   I have been once years ago on a helicopter trip to the icefield and it is amazing.

I'd love to get back up there.  Some day, I want to have a helicopter leave me up for a clear weekend in the winter to camp and take night sky photos.  It's like a different planet up there.

Speaking of Weed...and the whole 4/20 thing - I was educated earlier today that the whole 4/20 thing started with some kids in CA that were meeting at the wall at 4:20 pm to go find some pot fields they never found and then just started using 420 as the code we know it is today and that this got picked up and passed around as terms tend to do. The thing from the story I'd like to throw out there to my fellow Farkers, these kids called themselves the Walldoes (maybe not the right spelling as this was verbal storytelling). Is the funny Waldo you have to find in a crowd a spin off from these kids? Or just a fat coincidence?

No problem bro.

After living on and off in latin america for 20 years your ear gets trained to recognize the differences in musical styles.

However, at first it all sounds the same, and it is hard to hear the subtle differences.

Salsa and Meringue sound the same to many people and nortena has become a catch all to much mexican music.

I think the best blend of Afro Carribean, latin, and rock was done by War.  Spill the Wine being a perfect example.

One of my favorites is a Cuban ex pat band called Cubanismo.  They went to New Orleans and recorded a spanglish mix of 1950s New Orleans hits and it is amazing.

They reworked the old Ernie K. Doe classic of Mother in Law.  It starts out like the traditional version then moves into a mambo and onto a proto salsa vibe. amazing.

soosh: HotWingAgenda, for reggae, I like Peter Tosh (playing now), and roots reggae.  I can upload some for you tonight if you want.

Don't sweat it. I'm building my playlist in Grooveshark. I'm adding Mama Africa and Legalize It.

Can I get some friendly suggestions? I'm thinking Marley and the Wailers, definitely Sublime, and the Catch-22s. Probably some Ben Harper?

You know, as an old fart, I have been digging on a group called the Dirty Heads, very Sublimish.  I would also check Ben harpers buddies.  The Animal Liberation Orchestra.  They have a tune called Girl I want to lay you down.  Great funk vibe.

actually saw them tonight.

Oops, I was wrong, not Ben Harpers buddies but Jack Johnsons...

I got booted to South America when I was 18 because I was drinking and partying too much in New Orleans, but I do not think Colombia was the best place to send a kid who liked to tear it up.

But my grandmother was a judge and a spanish teacher, and she pretty much yelled it into me.

Wow, the must of been weird and it sounds crazy to me but the 30's America well, there were a lot of racist as hell people in charge, hell the US in the 30's had a true Nazi party and not the "Illinois Nazi's" in the Blues brothers.

Hmmm...I meant to write "Mexican-American" instead of "American."

* * * * *

Apparently that's how all public schools were back in the day (at least in CA). My father grew up in NorCal, and Mom (originally from TX) grew up in SoCal. In the mid-1940s, one of her elementary school teachers locked her in a janitor's closet for a while for speaking Spanish in class. She also remembers seeing other kids get sent to the principal's office for a swat for defying the teacher and continuing to use that damned Spanish. Mexican-American kids back then literally had the Spanish beaten out of them.

Mom forgot most of the Spanish she knew as a kid, and later took a few community college courses in order to relearn it.

Similar things happened to German immigrants on the East Coast back in the day. My grandmother was afraid to speak a word of German to her kids until they were well past college, in case they got in trouble for it. They all grew up speaking English with Noo Yawk accents.

Hi, sweetie :-)

Hey, I missed a whole week of frk since I was in GA away from interwebs most of the time.

No interwebs for a week? How did you survive?

I drank a lot and worked my butt off during the day and well I'm getting a smart phone or something soon.

The Galaxy S4 has an amazing camera.  The S5 is about to come out and will likely be really good.   My wife just got an LG something or other that's a little larger than the S4.

If you're going to be using it a lot when you're in a situation where you don't have a computer or other connection to the internet, I would look into getting a 4G tablet.

I've thought about that but well I'm spending a lot already on other needful things and that's why I've been going to ATL. My moms got an i Pad and it's not bad and I've taken it with me at times but I really need the phone, text and the cheapest data plan and then I can use local wifi hot spots. My uncle recommended T-mobile he had an antique shipping company and he said that's what all his drivers had and used all over the country.
