We don't need just a Dumbass tag. That one should have a "Dumbf*ck" tag.

Ahh, the old 'stranger danger' thing. Thanks to this little tidbit of fear mongering, most people under the age of 25 are terrified of everyone on the planet except their mom and dad. Of course, most child abuse/abduction is from a family member, but why stop a good cash cow/scare tactic/advertisement in the name of facts?

Here's all you need to know about kidnapping -- If you ain't rich, nobody but your relatives is going to kidnap your stupid kids.

Gyrfalcon: RightWingWacko: TuteTibiImperes: So 4,600 kids are abducted by strangers every year?  That's more than I expected.  It's almost half as many as are shot by guns every year.

Citation Please:

1,337  - The number of American kids under age 18 who died from gunshot wounds in 2010

(Otherwise known as over twice as many)

A small price to pay in order to secure our freedoms. After all, they are blessed and with Jesus.

Skr: It was a dumb prank but the parent that said "My daughter is still terrified," Barnett told The Daily Mail. "She's like, 'What if they take me?'" doesn't truly appreciate the lesson their child just learned.
Kids should be scared of getting taken, walking in traffic, touching hot stoves etc.

/alternate life lesson of 'don't be a dumbass' added at no extra charge.

No they shouldn't. Masked abductions are very low on the list of things that a child should realistically be concerned about. This is like saying it's useful to fear being hit by an asteroid. What good is that fear going to do her? She should be afraid every second of her life even when sitting on a park bench not 10 feet away from the nearest adult? Do you want her to cling to the legs of her guardian at all times? You don't think helicopter parenting is getting out of control as it is?

This girl now has a fear of something that will likely never happen. Worse, there's nothing she can pragmatically do with that fear to her advantage besides cling to her parent like a frightened puppy. This is inhibiting her developing sense of independence. If you're serious, this is one the dumbest posts I've seen in a long time.

Also...

"The police never said it wasn't a good idea," said Holden. "They asked for our name and number and said they would notify the police in our area."

FYI: I know exactly what I'd do now if I were a child abductor. "Oh hey cops? Yeah, I'm going to be abducting a child, but not really! It's my kid and I'm doing a film to promote child abduction awareness, so ignore any calls you get. Thanks."

Apparently this works, meaning the police are dumbshiats.

So much wrong with this it's beyond stupid.

I myself conceal carry and pretty much carry both gun and knife everywhere I go with my kids. I see a moron in a mask charging a playground full of kids, he's not getting halfway there. They obviously were speeding on their way out. The driver is farking around with a goddamned camera-phone while fleeing. No seatbelts applied. They traumatized every child playing there needlessly, who no doubt will have nightmares and unjustified fears onward (I'd sue their asses so hard just for this). Who knows what might have happened just from the stress alone? A grandparent seeing this could have a cardiac event or be hastened toward one later.

They should be in jail and in courts for a very long time imo.

FTFDumbass in the article : "We had to make it as real as possible."

If that were the case, the guy taking to kid would be someone the kid knew, like an uncle or "family friend", not a couple of masked men who are grabbing him in a park in broad daylight.

If someone had shot you while you were "abducting" this kid, you would deserve it.

My thought, too.  We now have concealed carry in Illinois.

Might I recommend against shooting at a person carrying a child? Beat the shiat out of him though.

On Fark, it's pretty risky to recommend against shooting anything, under any circumstances.

I think its worse than that.  Thanks to this fak'n fear mongering just talking to a child can get you thrown in jail.  I'm still pissed off when some asshole came up to me and asked me how I knew the kid I was with (which was my fark'n nephew I was taking to the childrens theatre) and then preceded to ask the kid if he was frightened (of course he was - some batshiat crazy women he didn't know was yelling at us).  I told the woman to go fark off (trust me - his father uses worse language) who then ran off somewhere.

That's messed up.  And you know what?  That is exactly why males will avoid any contact whatsoever with a child.  "Sorry, can't help you."

A few years ago, a young girl knocked on my co-workers front door because her stupid farking mom of the year told her to walk to school during a blizzard and she was maybe 8 years old and freezing her ass off and the snowbanks were taller than she was.

My first reaction was "You let her in your house?  How are you not under suspicion of being a pedophile?"

2nd reaction was how the fark does someone's mother not at least walk her 8 year old daughter to school when the weather gets so bad.

The only explanations I could come up with involved alcohol or meth.

WhoopAssWayne: In my neck of the woods, that will get you shot. It just doesn't happen. I mean, damn.

Maybe in your neck of the woods, everyone is packing heat.

There still is the problem of hitting the abductor without hurting the child.

Are you feeling lucky?  Are you really that good of a marksman?

DNRTFA but I think I saw this story a couple of days ago.  Everyone was pissed and one bystander said he would have killed them if he had been able to catch up to him.

The news story I saw about this basically said the prosecutors were grasping for anything they could think of to charge these assholes with.

Abuse of 911?  Disorderly conduct?  I dunno.   I'm not a lawyer...or a prosecutor

Can we also crucify the stepmother, who would willingly put the child through a terrifying situation instead of just talking to the kids about it?

Also, wasn't this on an episode of that show about people preparing for the apocalypse? The father wanted to abduct the children but the mom was against it.

BradleyUffner: dilettantegrrl: These two idiots were filming a prank, just like all their other videos, and when they got busted they started calling it an "awareness video". Complete bullshiat. If they had two brain cells to rub together they'd be ashamed. If they had tried that bs in Texas or any other heavily armed state, they'd be dead. And our gene pool would be better for it.

Nope, they called it in to police to warn them BEFORE filming and said it was a documentary.  They didn't give enough notice, but they did NOT change their story after getting caught.

They called a couple minutes before they started filming. To save their asses when someone called 911. I watched an interview with these yahoos on the Seattle news. They are disingenuous punks.
