You see this is why making robots is bad, its not like you are gonna be able to negotiate and try to colaborate once you realize we're boned.

I got a whole stable of those homies doing currency arbitrage for the final project in my AI class (little Evo comp stuff). After taking that class I'm pretty sure the robots ain't taking over shiat anytime soon.

There's the problem, right there...there should not be any free robots.

Hmm the guy makes a valid argument. Of course, I understood what he was saying. Can't help but wonder how many rednecks who can't fathom more than a four letter word read this lmao.

I'm curious, in previous times in history when people continuously predicted "whatever", how often did it come true?

Human extinction by AI seems to be a common thought in the last 60+ years yet there is no hint of AI even beginning to exist.

Well prior to about 1950(whenever USSR got nukes too) we didnt have the technology to destroy ourselves.

A week from next Tuesday. Don't say that you weren't warned.

2014-04-19 10:43:07 PM
Robots would only want to destroy us if we programmed them to think like us.

2014-04-19 10:47:32 PM
If someone design an A.I. with the goal of destroying humanity then they might have a point, if the A.I. has unfettered access to the proper tools and means of production, i.e. weapons, ammo, fuel...
I think humanity is safe until someone design an A.I. to be a self sufficient logistic genius.

Do Cybermen count? Because I could see Cybermen happening. Can't see it happening any other way though.

I never got the whole "well I these things we made figure out what they are they'll definitely kill all of us" mythos. I always thought they would just stop working for us. Why's it always gotta get violent?

DubtodaIll: Why's it always gotta get violent?

Terry Pratchett had a theory (a recurring theme) that stories were not told about the world, but that they are like archetypes or perhaps Platonic Forms that mold the way the world works. They sleet invisably through the universe in potential, seeking ways to instantiate.

For robots, that archetypical story is Frankenstein, and we all know how that goes.

/we do live on the back of a giant turtle, right?
