One minute it's all "heh, look at the stoopid wild animals there."  Then, the next minute it's all "AUGGGGHHHHH!  My farking car's on fire and there's a brazilian lions out there looking to turn the family into lunch."  The thing to remember if you're running away from a lion is, you don't have to be faster than the lion, you just have to be faster than the other person.

And Longleat Safari Park has been around since 1966.

And did the lions have bees in their mouths, so that when they roared, they shot bees at them?!

I grew up in South Louisiana and have split my life between the US and Colombia.

I have been down the Amazon, gone through the jungle  and  swamp on foot.

I am not going to entrust  the lives of my loved ones against lions, bears, crocs, alligators, anacondas, unless I am driving a sherman tank and I am wearing a metal shark suit and have a couple of side arms loaded with glaser slugs.

I will be at the bar watching you get eaten on CNN.

Rapids City, South Dakota has a place called Bear Country that is similar. Drive through wildlife enclosures. Among other animals, you'll end up driving through a big area with about 20 black bears. Saw a van stall out on a really hot day there, though thankfully they were behind us. Lots of warnings posted everywhere about keeping windows up and no food for the bears to smell.

Lots of baby bears and cute porcupines there to see.

Don't think I'd want to try to stop an angry lion with a Glaser bullet. They have pretty tough hides, and embedding a bunch of birdshot in its skin would probably get you an even angrier lion. I'd stick with old-fashioned cast lead bullets, the bigger the better.

I saw the nature video that still is from.

Very shortly thereafter Blanch was a very unhappy kitty.

I remember my uncle's dog, Bubba, having a close encounter with a porcupine. It's no fun pulling spines out of a dog's muzzle.

If they had flares in the car they would have been ok... a lion's vision is based on movement, like a T-Rex, right?

We used to have one of those in Southern California, as well. My family used to go there when I was a kid.

Once, when my younger sister was about 4, she got all excited seeing a flock of flamingos.

"Mommy, Daddy, look look look," she squealed, bouncing up and down and pointing, working herself into such a tizzy she couldn't remember what they were called. "Mommymommymommy, lookie all the ... um ... lookie ... um ... the PINK GOOSES!"

"Pink gooses" has been the family name for flamingos ever since.

Lion  Country Safari, here in So Cal.

My favorite memory is watching as these lions played/fought with each other and one chased another one head on into the passenger door of the car ahead of us.  Left a huge dent.  I saw people lowering their windows to try and feed them other times.  Even as a kid I couldn't believe it.

Can't have nice things these days because of people like that.

Haha that's funny. I went one year and didn't know it was mating season. Ended up getting the hilarious surprise of a Lion farking a Lioness as we were driving through lol

Blair Drummond Safari Park here in Scotland has lions and tigers and bears, oh my.  And zebras and meerkats and etc., etc., and chimps - on Chimp Island.  They've got an island, must be friends with that cat that bought a boat.

I accompanied my 6 year oldson as a parent chaperone (there were several of us) to Wildlife Safari in November, 1986 through Willamette Parks & Recreation. There were two school bus loads of adults & children, but the thing that the kids talked about the most on the way home were the lions. It seems that late fall was a prime time to see lions mating at Wildlife Safari. There were so many kids on the side of the bus that looked out at the lions that I thought the bus would tip over.

Remember what ever distance the native guide stops from the lion you need to stop from the lion. That is the distance where you can still get back to the car.

We're like King Shiat of Fark Island now, but I think there's some genetic level of awareness of the badassery of big cats, especially lions, that all humans can't help but respond to.

Glad Longleat's still around...went there as a kid, about 40 years ago, visiting English cousins.
