Isn't the White House supposed to comment on any petition that gets over a certain number of signatures?

This. Left leaning Democrat calls bullshiat. Bad precedence.

They even addressed the Death Star petition.

By commenting about immigration reform and the value to the US economy of selling Bieber albums, they effectively did comment on it.  In a very dumb way, but still.

I was going to comment how we're getting our Politics in our Entertainment tab; but then I remembered that politics *IS* entertainment.  As much as Bieber's "music" is art, at least...

Bieber fans are just as deplorable as Bronies.

You'd think they would say so much as a "Get a farking life, guys. Don't you have anything else to do?"

Sure, they have more important things to do, but this is exactly the kind of bread and circuses that they need to feed the mob to keep them placated.

that's because we will soon be using bieber in the war on terror, if countries suspected of harboring terrorists do not comply with our demands a drone will soon be sent with to fly over the major cities with all of his songs playing at full volume. If this does not work a strategic Celine Dion strike will be made.

Fark you.  We've invoked the "You break it, you bought it" rule.

themindiswatching: Isn't the White House supposed to comment on any petition that gets over a certain number of signatures?

They noted that "The We the People terms of participation state that, 'to avoid the appearance of improper influence, the White House may decline to address certain procurement, law enforcement, adjudicatory, or similar matters properly within the jurisdiction of federal departments or agencies, federal courts, or state and local government in its response to a petition.'"

So, if you want to be optimistic, that could be taken as "We can't comment, as that might prejudice our eventual court case to have whatever a Bieber is kicked out."
If you want to be pessimistic, that instead reads "Fortunately, the lawyers left us a loophole to get us out of commenting on this particular idiocy."

They're supposed to do a lot of things that don't get done. And vice versa.

They did comment.  If you look at the actual site, they basically say they can't comment on individual processes and actions that would be carried out by specific agencies, so as to avoid undue influence.  In other words, they can comment on Immigration Reform generally - and they did - but they can't comment on the deportation of an individual because that could be taken as instruction to the INS to proceed without due process of law.

I'm guessing Bieber is in the US on an O-1 visa.  While I would question his credentials for that (you have to have made significant contributions to the arts), it would mean that he has to get popped for a violent crime with a jail sentence over a year long before they even consider deporting him.

Shatner would be taking selfies with an Orion Slave Girl (they say they're more animal than human) instead of Denmark's Prime Minister.

For generations, one of the most important functions of popular music has been to annoy the fark out of the listener's parents. Measured on that scale, Bieber is a goddamn genius.

Fine. We'll somehow dig up both George Carline and Hunter Thompson, reanimate them somehow, and they will be the new Libertarian candidates.

There's also a precedent for it.  They did the exact same thing with the "investigate Chris Dodd and the MPAA for bribery" petition a while back.

Last time saw him, be was wearing pants that appeared to be manufactured so the legs were lie a foot long and the crotch went from the waist to the floor. He looked like a moronic penguin.

You know what I think is strange? The president of the United States will call Kayne West a jackass for insisting that he has a right to be proud of himself and other black artists, and for bringing up how racism in the music industry undercuts non-white artists, but when it comes to commenting on a White YouTube-famous teen-idol pop-singer who spits on his fans, trashes his hotel rooms, treats women like garbage, sells drugs out of his homes, and is just generally a jackass in every cliched way famous men can possibly be, disparaging pop culture figures is suddenly beneath his dignity. It sure is strange that probably the most powerful and visible Black man on Earth feels it is appropriate for him to trash other black folks for speaking up too loudly, but not white folks for unquestionably unethical and illegal behavior. If you ever wondered to yourself how black folks could possibly internalize the racist thinking that keeps them down or what that might look like, here's an excellent example.

Despite the thuggish personas that those black artists maintain, none of them were the subject of criminal investigations when President Obama made those comments.
