eagles95: LucklessWonder: ADubs86: A few reports coming that Moyes gets his walking papers TODAY. Still unconfirmed.

They must have somebody already lined up to take the job, and want to give them a transfer window.

Griggs would be interim manager per reports. Isn't Barca or Real Madrid's manager talked about coming to England?

I'd laugh if anyone's thinking of hiring Martino after Barcelona's season. He's supposedly going back to Argentina. As for Ancelotti, I don't think he'd take that big a step down unless he's getting paid a lot of money.

Moyes didn't do a lot right this season...but neither did Man U's directors.  Buying Fellaini for £30 Million wreaked of a panic buy.

I would imagine that no players get bought without input from the manager, so Fellaini can probably be blamed on him, too.

I find it funny ManU is now a step down. How much of a money hit is it for ManU to not make CL this year

Yeah, but if you're Man United you have players pounding at your door to be a part of that.  The directors fumbled that in the worst way possible.

IIRC very early in the window United going for both Fellaini and Baines in a package deal but the price was less than £30 Million.  So to go from both at £30M to just Fellaini at the same price sounds like someone screwed that up badly.

i really, really need city to win this week. and next. i will be in the sierra this weekend, and if 'pool clinch while i'm in the mountains, i will be majorly bummed. and i'll be out of town next weekend visiting family with no cable, and since it's a family reunion i can't very well stagger off to some pub in idaho at 5:00am to catch the match. well, technically, i COULD, but that would be majorly bad vibes...

Sure, but at least Moyes had a track record of coaching in the EPL.

When all this is over, I don't care about trophies or the Champions League, I just want United to attack.

Damn, I was starting to get really comfortable with this whole "Moyes-led Manchester United" thing. *Looks at current table* Yep, VERY comfortable.

Rwa2play: IIRC very early in the window United going for both Fellaini and Baines in a package deal but the price was less than £30 Million.

I get the fact you don't want to overshoot when you file an initial bid, but there is absolutely no way in hell that a manager can turn to his former club so shortly after accepting the new job and make a below-market value offer for two of their (at the time) best players without a pretty big stink being made. So, being only able to get Fellatio in the end for that amount was one thing, but Everton had every right to publicize the initial offer and go ballistic because of the gall in that initial offer was something to behold.

Yes, and in particular the board isn't going to buy a player from the manager's old club without the manager's backing. And remember, he could have been bought earlier in the transfer window for less money because of a buyout clause in his contract.

The Fellaini fiasco is representative of so much that went wrong for Moyes. Before he left Everton, Fellaini was in the middle of trying to transition from attacking midfielder (which Utd still need) to defensive/holding midfielder (which they didn't). So you start with a player unsure about his own best role. And then Moyes didn't seem to know where to fit him in at Utd, despite knowing him well: he really didn't have a plan for either Old Fellaini nor New Fellaini. Consequently, on the few occasions that he did play, he seemed lost, with no idea whether he should be playing the attacking role Moyes wanted or the defensive role he wanted for himself, and ended up doing neither. (See also: Mata).

Um, not sure why I used that word...I referred to their public mocking and derision of the offer.

City's badge always cracks me up. Adding a star for every league title as if it was the World Cup is just so small time. In most every other country, a club has to win 5-10 league titles before it can put a star on its crest, but I guess City is too massive for that.

Utd have plenty of players who can hold (Cleverly, Fletcher, Carrick come immediately to mind). They lack players who can pick the ball up in midfield and run with it at their feet.

And for the record, I don't think Welbeck and Chicharito are similar players, but I do think they play in the same spaces and mostly go after the same opportunities, the loose balls and second chances around the six yard box.

I thought there was a rule stipulating it HAS to be at least 5 titles for that too. Otherwise Inter would be a splurge of stars.
