Still better than Peeps.

Every year, my grandmother got an egg carton filled with these.  They'd be gone before the week was out.  Fire and brimstone befell anybody who came within arm reach of that carton.

The first half or so of one is awesome. The rest of it I have to choke down like I was drinking syrup. Then I'm done with Easter candy. Blech.

A shame that the carmel eggs are getting harder to find. Those are actually good.

A) I love these.
B) They're often priced on sale before Easter as well.
C) It's spelled "Creme" not "Cream."

Were they better years ago or did I just grow up? I remember them being so awesome when I was a kid, now they're so sweet that they burn my throat.

If they spelled it c-r-e-a-m, they would have to put actual c-r-e-a-m in it.

I hardly ever see much holiday stuff left over and offered at a discount anymore.  I guess most retailers really know to estimate demand for this stuff and order just enough.

While Cadbury chocolate is quite good, those creme eggs are just awful.

I'll take the little candy coated eggs.

...The former Mrs Coast reverse engineered the creme recipe many years ago, and while I was deployed one Easter she sent me a homemade creme egg.

The size of a gorram football.  I remember very little of the following week, as my blood sugar was spiking into the low four figures.

Sometimes they really screw up still, a grocery store near me is still trying to dump coversation hearts. I bought abuch of them for my sister at 50 cents for 500g in the middle of March.

It seems like more stores are better at predicting demand (or, just as likely, preferring to lose sales due to lack of stock over selling them at a loss). That said, I will be hitting up a couple stores Monday.

No scarcity of caramel eggs in Zinzinnati area.  Tho they Acquired either Fondness or Addiction.

Cadbury is not good chocolate. I'm sorry that a whole lot of people have access to only that shiate.

I pretty much know what you're talking about.

Easter candy is the bomb, but I have reactive hypoglycemia and my husband can find me passed out on the floor about an hour after I eat something like that.  I spike and then crash hard.

But a homemade egg the size of a football sounds like an irrestistible challenge.

Halloween and Easter are the big candy holidays. I prefer Halloween; black jelly beans!

I prefer the Kreme Egggs at the dollar store

I'm all about their mini eggs now. And you can get them year round.

2014-04-19 01:45:20 PM
I have friends that buy them and keep them. They claim they have some bacteria that makes the center 'oozier' and better. Some even claim that they 'ferment'.

I used to like them as a kid. The Mrs...used to buy me one a year. I was away on a business trip a few months ago and bought one. Three beers doesn't spike my blood sugar and make me tired like that one little egg. Woke up like I had been drugged.

can't do it again.

I just find them to have too much chocolate to filling.

PimpMySnack.com has full instructions on how to make a Cadbury Creme egg that size. The ingredients start with three bags of sugar....

Fazer. Cadbury is still better than what most of Hershey tries to pass off.

As long as you're not suggesting that  cheese tasting diarrhea from a dysentery ridden wombat that comes out of Pennsylvania is any better, I'll let this Slide.

Cadbury's went to hell when Kraft bought them and moved the European production from the UK to Poland. It tasted awful ever since.

They were better years ago. At least in the US they were. Cadbury had two factories making the eggs years ago, then they got bought out and closed the one that normally supplies the US. The other factory has a different filling recipe which is much worse.

Or, there are more discount stores now willing to take the overage from the mainstream grocery stores, whose shelf space is more valuable than that.
