I think it has since been downgraded to a 7.2.

I'm not sure if this means that the BIG one is coming, or enough pressure is being released to prevent a BIG one.

How do these things work in plae tektonics?  Does a bunch of smaller quakes mean there is a potential buildup to a larger one?  Do the smaller quakes destabalize other faults making a larger one more likely?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Quick poll. Who has Johnny Cash stuck in their heads now?

Yup, the supervolcano is definitely dead. Of course, some of you won't be convinced until it erupts and opens up a 20 mile-wide hole and covers half of north america with ash and lava in its final death heave to be convinced.

Nope, moreover the one from Scrubs.

Has this occurred due to a failure to adequately punish gays, or is it a consequence of expanding access to healthcare?

There is the quake advisory board and planning committee, which consists of a bunch of earthquakes sitting around a table shouting at each other "Its not my fault!"

I'm no movie producer, but it SyFy wants to pay me to make it, I'm in. I can't do a worse job then most of their productions.

Rosanna's daddy had a car she loved to drive
Stole the keys one night and took me for a ride
Turned up the music just as loud as it could go
Blew out the speakers in her daddy's radio

She was shakin'
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Snappin' her fingers
(Oh-oh-oh-oh)
She was movin' round and round
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
That girl was shakin'
(Oh-oh-oh-oh)

We started drinkin', weren't thinkin' too straight
She was doin' 80 and she slammed on the brakes
Got so high we had to pull to the side
We did some shakin' til the middle of the night

Shakin'
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Snappin' her fingers
(Oh-oh-oh-oh)
She was up and down and round and round
(Oh -oh-oh-oh-oh)
Shakin'
(Oh-oh-oh-oh)

Shakin'
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
(Oh-oh-oh-oh)
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
(Oh-oh-oh-oh)

I got a little nervous, ha
She took her coat off
She looked so pretty
Ah yeah

I'm always talkin' baby, talkin' too much
I love that little girl and I just can't get enough
It takes a lonely night with nowhere to go
Just call Rosanna, it's a hell of a show

When she's shakin'
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Snappin' her fingers
(Oh-oh-oh-oh)
She'll be movin' round and round
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Oh, she's shakin'
(Oh-oh-oh-oh)

Shakin'
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Snappin' her fingers
(Oh-oh-oh-oh)
She'll be movin' up and down and round and round and round
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
And shakin'
(Oh-oh-oh-oh)

Sha-sha-sha-sha-sha she was shakin'
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Sha-sha-sha-sha-sha she was shakin'
(Oh-oh-oh-oh)
Sha-sha-sha-sha-sha she was shakin'
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Sha-sha-sha-sha-sha she was shakin'
(Oh-oh-oh-oh)

In general lots of earthquakes relieve pressure, unless there's a part of the plate that's hanging up on a sticky spot, in which case the little quakes build up stress onto the sticky spot until it breaks and makes a massive quake in that spot. Figuring out the spot is the trick.....

I take it that one building wasn't quite built to code. Damn, that's bad.

Dude, there was a building in NYC that passed inspection that lost the entire front during a *hurricane*, a 7+ quake is a LOT more energy.
