Seriously, it wasn't a very happy song BEFORE it got permanently associated with abused animals.

Cootch, as in Vajeen or Bleeding Axe Wound.

So sad to think about that...once a darling acquisition, but now forgotten as a combination of age and neglect has ravaged those features that once were considered endearing...

The dogs are pretty bad off, too.

This song and video really did it for me when it was in rotation on the video channels.

I used to play in punk bands, I've been in some experimental noise bands (not as bad as it sounds) and my iPod is always jacked with what my Bay Area wife describes as "angry white person" music...and Sarah McLachlan's whole catalog.

/tried to get a band to cover Building a Mystery once...I thought the theremin and a glitch loop would add something...they didn't go for it

My boss gets tickets to a great box seat at the Hollywood Bowl and one year he gave me his tickets to a Sarah McLachlan show. I figured "She's a good musician, I'll go, get stoned and have some beers*, have a nice evening at the Bowl". She was really good, had a killer band, I'm glad I went.

I used to like Sarah, but damned, every-time I hear one of her songs, all I can think about is abused animals. It's like that 1800 cars for kids song. every-time I hear that I want to smack a little kid or a hipster.

I love Fumbling Towards Ecstacy and Surfacing.  Not ashamed to admit it, either.  She just has a fantastic voice, or at least she did back in the mid-1990s.  Haven't heard much much of anything after Surfacing.

I have pit seats to her when she comes to Cincinnati.  She has an amazing voice and is hot as hell.

Since Kate Bush most likely won't be touring America, guess this is as close as it gets outside of Tori Amos. Only McLaughlin songs I like is the one she did with Delerium ('Silence') and Manufacture ('As The End Draws Near').

Vox alone (and even the bonus track remix) is worth the price of admission.  One of her best songs ever IMHO.

And Ben's song is absolutely gorgeous.  Really shows off her range.

I spent a summer working at Canada House (to commemorate Canada's 125th anniversary).    The area I was in had a pair of televisions playing 8 music videos (Much Music's contribution) on a continuous loop.    Into the Fire was the only song I can still stand to hear to this day.

I liked a few of her tunes before she went 100% ballad, but now she just writes songs that lesbians play bitterly at guys.

Hopefully it's remotely as good as Fumbling, since nothing she's done since has been (IMO).

You shut your whore mouth. Fumbling was very pop, everything she has done since, not so much, but very good.

Both killer albums, easily some of the best from their era.  When she got more mellow and had a kid and all that, she didn't lose her voice, but she got significantly less "edgy", for lack of a better term.

Dragonflew: I LOVE Vox, My favourite SM track.

I love it too, even though I always hear the chorus as "Hawaii...iiiii..Hawaii...iiiii".

That's not surprising.  Even at that point in her career, Sarah McLachlan was probably so accustomed to being propositioned by male audience members who thought they were God's-gift-to-women that it was an expected part of the post-concert routine.  She's an attractive woman and even a seemingly high-estrogen environment like one of her concerts won't deter a young testosterone-laden male eager to score with a hot singer.

Yeah, that sounds about right.  I'm not exactly Mr. Outgoing, but I'm sure I'd have taken a shot, if I could have.

I remember some interviewer asking the Bangles about groupies back in the day.  The reply was something like 'we don't sleep with groupies, but they're certainly out there, if we wanted them.'

Of course, that's a variation on the age-old joke that a man on a date never know if he's going to get lucky or not but a woman always does.

On the other end of the spectrum were The Go-Go's, who were fairly notorious for picking a male fan or two from the audience.

There are any number of stories about the band talking some guy into masturbating for them (there's even a video somewhere of them talking a local stage crew member into doing it), and there were a few stories (unconfirmed by this reporter, but I heard them when working at WEBN) of a couple of the girls providing a lucky fan or two with a story that wouldn't be accepted by Penthouse because it was so unbelievable.

(when they performed one of their concerts in Cincinnati, the contract rider specified (among other things) 2 tubes of KY and 25 packages of condoms (Trojan preferred))
