haven't they been doing easter egg hunts at the white house for decades?  or was this something Michelle Obama started? I'm confused.

What's this now?

Michelle Obama continues the WH tradition of using real hard boiled eggs as part of the annual Easter Egg Roll-a-thon thingy and this is now controversial or something?

Oh, it's PETA. Never mind.

PETA sees her rollin'.

They hatin'.

/There's some girl at my school who occasionally wears a PETA shirt. I'm considering going up to her and saying "hey, People for Eating Tasty Animals, I'm a member to!".

OMG did you just make that up or is that from something? LOL. You should get into stand-up!

Alright, alright, you can stop with the sarcasm. Yeah, that wasn't original in any sense of the word, but it'll still piss off a PETA-freak prove I'm a bigger asshole that she is. And that's what really matters.

F*ck PETA and f*ck plastic eggs that are probably made by children in sweatshops and will end up in a landfill anyway. But now I'm hoping that the WH uses non-factory farmed eggs. Because f*ck industrial chicken farms, too.

Well, there are the PETA members who are against fur, which IS cruel, and there are the PETA members who are against eating eggs, who can (ironically) bite me.

I've seen Pam Anderson protesting against animal testing for beauty products, but I've never seen her protest against animal testing for medical advances.

Do you really think the Obamas are going to use grocery store eggs? They are the First Foodie Couple. Factory farming of chicken eggs is inhumane and cruel, and the eggs taste like crap compared to a fresh, local egg. But screw PETA for being against all eggs, one of the tastiest, best source of protein when the chicken is raised right. What do they want to do? Let the chickens run free in the wild?

BTW, how many of those 3,000,000 PETA members vote?  And, if they do, does their veganism play any role in who they vote for?  So far, I haven't seen PETA organizing either against or in support of a particular candidate or party (although I suppose they'd lose some tax privileges if they did).

To be more accurate they are anti domestication of any kind they are notorous for taking animal from adoption centers and euthanizing them. Many centers have banned PETA from adopting over this.

All true.  Mrs. Nuisance is a vegetarian, and we keep a vegetarian house (don't judge me, it's easier than cooking two meals all the time, and I eat plenty of meat away from home when I want it) and we have a flock of 19 hens.  And a bantam Roo who tries to fertilize the eggs, but can't quite line up Tab A and Slot B because of the size difference.  And the eggs are indeed amazing, our friends and neighbors clamor for them.

But that's not what I came here to say.  We treat our chickens very well, good food, lots of space in the oversized run and henhouse, and over an acre of land to forage in.  They have a very good life.

And you know what?  They are still little bastards, just awful to each other (where do you think the term "pecking order" comes from?) and are remorseless predators.  They will turn on the weak or injured and devour them.  They do way more harm to each other than we'll ever do, heck, we don't even eat `em after their laying days are over.

Mrs. Nuisance just called, no more then ten minutes ago.  She won't be sure until the birds roost for the night and she can bring the hen indoors and look her over, but she's pretty sure one of them just had her eye pecked out.

Like I said, they are right little bastards.

Zyme: they are notorous for taking animal from adoption centers and euthanizing them.

No, they are not deliberately adopting and killing animals. Their euthanization rate is a consequence of their operating shelters of last resort. They are taking in animals from other shelters that those other shelters cannot place and which they have already decided to euthanize. Sometimes PETA shelters are still able to place some of those animals, even though the prior shelters couldn't, in which case they're saving the animals from the chopping block. The ones being euthanized would have been euthanized by their prior shelters anyway.

I am not, nor will I ever be, a PETA member, supporter or donor. But this is one lie that needs to be dispelled, because it diverts attention from areas of legitimate criticism.

The shelters in Washington State are "no-kill" shelters, and when you adopt from them, you are required to sign a form saying that you won't de-claw your cats, give them away, or drop them off to a PETA shelter.  Lots of places manage to operate no-kill shelters.  The fact that PETA is willing to euthanize any animals at all, regardless of their health, makes them hypocrites.

It's still legitimate criticism because of PETA's absolute stance when it comes to everyone else. Were PETA about MINIMIZING rather than ELIMINATING the suffering elsewhere, and didn't vilify their targets so vociferously, maybe they wouldn't deserve the shiat they get for being hypocritical farktards.

Yeah... I never really got the "hiding real eggs" thing.  We dye eggs, and they sit in a basket on the table with all the other blessed food, and only a few people really eat them, so I end up taking them home and and make kielbalsa, farmers cheese, dill, and odd colored sliced hardboiled egg scrambles for the next week.

I honestly wonder how long they consider someone a "member".  I haven't donated in my own name to Planned Parenthood in like 3 years, but because of the ridiculous amount of mail they send me* I'm pretty sure they still consider me a member, albeit one who is late on re-upping her donation.

I could easily see it reaching 3 million pulling something like that.  Or signing a statement of support for a relatively uncontroversial issue = membership, or just from sweeping college campuses each year.

* which is why I only donate anonymously now.  Yet I still get a thick envelope from them once a month, like clockwork, and I was never that big a donor in the first damn place
