arrogant bastard probably did it to himself.
If stone was responsible, then they are double bastards.
No Epic fundraising can make up for it.
As far as his parents are concerned this was the ruination of their future and retirement.
A lucky bastard would have avoided injury, as would have the levitation of the lift.

You could have saved time and just alt+v'd arrogant bastard over and over since all those other things you mentioned taste just like it.

How do you "smoke" a beer? Does it have a smoky taste? Sounds intriguing. Seriously. I'm gonna have to try that one. I've tried Arrogant Bastard years ago and liked it.

You smoke the grains before fermenting them, like scotch.

I disagree... arrogant is arrogant. Double is harsher, lucky is pretty damn smooth and oaked is even smoother (albeit stronger somehow).

Stone's beers aren't generally my style (too much bitter for me, although the w00tStout was awesome I have to say), but I am proud to have them repping San Diego county's awesome brewing scene.  They locally farm a lot of their own ingredients and generally run a very conscientious company that makes a lot of well-loved, high-quality beers.

Let us know how much they actually collect because these stories are weekly and asshats like to pledge

2014-04-18 07:21:04 AM
Well, if that one gets distributed out here, I'll by one or three.  And if not, I'll still by some Stone because it's excellent beer.  AB, IRS, IPA and Ruination are my favorites.  And Old Guardian.

Ok, my favorite is any that I have available to drink presently.

Having had all of those beers on a number of occasions, I have no idea what you're talking about. Have you actually had them? Do your taste buds function properly?

Double Bastard is stronger and harsher than Arrogant Bastard. It's easy to tell them apart. Ruination is hoppier than both and has a considerably different malt flavor. Levitation is a moderately hopped brown ale that's quite different. The "Epics", Vertical Epic releases, are Belgian style brews that were different each year they were released and varied widely. None of the Epics taste at all like Arrogant Bastard. Lucky Bastard is a blend of Arrogant, Double Arrogant, and Oaked Arrogant, so yeah, in that case of course it has a similar flavor.

Double Bastard was the first beer that was too strong for me.  I dumped it down the drain.  I liked their 2014 Russian Imperial Stout, though.

2014-04-18 01:09:59 PM
Ruination is my favorite beer in the world, although I do blame it for the stupid "arms race" with hoppy IPAs.  For fark's sake just make a beer that tastes good and people will drink it, no matter how much hops you use.

2014-04-18 01:58:11 PM
If you ever have a chance to go to the Stone Brewery in Escondido, do it.  Good food, cool beer garden, and about a dozen fantastic beers you will never see released.

You aren't asking me are you?
Either way, I have drunken extensively from the stone line, though only the bastards and the IPAs What I find the most fascinating, BY FAR is how smooth that Oaked Bastard is. It's stronger than the bastards, but I find it to be much smoother; dare I say, it's gentler on the tongue and throat. But it's a mind boggling combination to have a higher A.B.V. AND a much smoother draft. I love the Oaked.

2014-04-18 05:19:30 PM
One other thing. One of the vertical epics... either 11 or 12 (11.11.11 / 12.12.12; respectively) was f*cking god awful. I drank a few sips and pored the rest down the drain, which I NEVER do. Under numerous principles, being thrifty (especially with such an expensive brew),*needing* to drink because I'm around my parents, and just hating to waste sweet, sweet alcohol. This horrid concoction was a mix of Anahieim chili peppers and cinnamon. It sounded like it could be really good if the flavors meshed well. They didn't and it tasted horrible. Ugh.

I live in San Diego, yes, I've had them all. And while I'm exaggerating, it's not by much. Because frankly what Stone does it take the basic IPA formula and change literally one thing, and boom it's a different beer.

Stone IPA = Centennial and Chinook hops
Runniation IPA  = Stone IPA with the addition of Magnum hops
Leviation = Stone IPA with different malt
Arrogant Bastard = Stone IPA with MOAR Chinook and less Centennial
Oaked Arrogant Bastard = Arrogant bastard with oak chips
Double Bastard = Arrogant Bastard with MOAR hops
Lucky Bastard = Frankly I had it once, and it tasted like a prank

Next Stone beer will be called "call me a bastard," it will be Arrogant bastard with the ratios of chinook and centennial reversed, beer snobs will call it a genius move and tell everyone how much different it is than all the other beers that stone has done.

If Stone REALLY wanted to be creative: How about a Pilsner? How about a Heff? How about a sour? How about anything that's not another freakin IPA.

I think their decisions are market based and they are going where the money is; brewing what they know will sell and what they know they can sell at a high(ish) price.

Sorry for asking, but can you guys just be farking nice?  The brewing community lost a brewer who at least had an interesting vision.  Whether you like Stone or not, raise a pint to a young brewer who was mortally wounded while HE WAS WORKING AT HIS JOB in an attempt to bring his vision to the brewing and craft beer drinking community.  I know this is Fark, but please don't be a dick.  Not saying brewers have the right to shiat rainbows and be unicorns, but please show some respect for someone attempting his hand at craftsmanship and losing his life in pursuit of his vision.

Let the flame wars commence, or ban me outright.

Thank you and good night.
