Some of my neighbors are lighting fireworks. Really? On Easter??? Did I miss a memo, or something???

Easter bonfires are pretty common in some cultures and the fireworks are probably an extension of that. You got any Scandihoovians around you? They like fire quite a bit from what I've seen. The pre-Christian celebrations of this time of year always seemed to include fire and since Pagans just adopt words and phrases but keep traditions, which are then passed on to their children as "christian", well if you were a REAL Christian (or even just a cultural Christian like most Americans), you'd go burn something down or blow something up for Jesus!

/you could do it for fun, too

[ image 500x400]

I must be surrounded by them then, since a bunch of us here are fans of fire and it's wonderful cleansing power.

Well, the good thing about the medication changes and adjustments that are making me so loopy - I have slept enough off and on since the change that when I am awake, I am full of energy. I finished my laundry - it's even all put away in the right places!, taught Gogh how to get to the treats inside his new toy and played with him for a while, made myself two small tacos and eated them, did my nighttime skin care ritual, got a few things listed on an auction site, went outside and visited Sir Earl the Grey of Kitty and gave him skritches, tidied up the kitchen and now I'm going to make myself a tiny little ice cream with fruit and chocolate syrup and whipped cream! All that only took me five hours, too! woo-hoo! I totally deserve that ice cream, don't I? Yes. Yes I do. Then I'm taking another nap, because I am tired.

Where am I again? Oh, yeah  - Caturday... Just FYI guise, most of you people with my phone # know that I keep it unplugged (to avoid the bill collectors) and just monitor my calls on my ISP's  "dashboard" so I know who is trying to get in touch with me and I can get back to you.... Welp, they locked me out of that nifty little feature since my bill is 1 freaking day late! Needless to say, this is one company I ain't gonna miss. Gimme a day or so to work out an alternative ...

Meanwhile, I am once again taking a very short break (hey, mental health) from packing and trying to play catchup.... And away we go!

John Buck 41:  Hi sherp. Hang in there, buddy. Please send me an updated snail mail address asap, 'k?  Sorry, I thought I already did - my PO Box will probably remain open for a little while longer (I'll know more about how long tomorrow)

Diocletian's Last Cabbage:  I need 3 things for my Friday to be better: ... elephant pics, LOTS of elephant pics

I lurve elephants. If I had time, I would find the pics of the one that CDK and MRS. CDK sent me a few years ago, but lacking that, have a pic of the white boy wondering what Easter is all about...

/ sorry, I keep finding pics of him in albums that I should have sorted long ago  :o(

All I can say is that is obvious that you are a... (and thanks for taking such good care of them)

catmandu: My little court jester was at it again. I have a bag that I take to my water aerobics class with my suit, swimming cap, etc. including a net loofa thingy for the shower. Anyway, I got to the shower this afternoon and the big pink loofa was not in the bag. What WAS in the bag was a green sparkly cat toy ball. Didn't work very well as you can see by the size difference. I finally found my loofa under the bed. At least Hector tried to be nice and leave me a substitute.

*giggle, snort*

/ meanwhile, i'm sure i missed some other comments that i would have liked to respond to, but i just can't keep up right now, i gotta go pack some more stuff
// and i keep finding pics of the white one in albums where they should not be, and it alternately makes me smile and tear up....    *blargh*

Deathbymeteor: Diocletian's Last Cabbage: Taking a little time out to add to the previous wishes for the Universe to leave Alien alone.  Don't make me get Neil DeGrasse-Tyson and have him and the Cosmos WHUP your ass, Universe!

On a similar note, any Canadian regulars or lurkers out there?  What do you know about possible government assistance for someone in Alien's perdicament?  Can she get into an assisted living facility given the memory problems she suffers due to her many brain surgeries?  Are there options for a pro caregiver to visit her periodically to check on her?  I'm not sure what her actual situation is (ie: is she not entitled, is she too proud to ask for state aid, etc), but it would be nice if someone or someones could research this and offer options here on Caturday.  I remember when I could've used some public assistance between jobs and never got it because I was too proud to ask.

/Living on ramen noodles and hotdogs for more than two months does funny things to your coronary system!

This I think we can make a plan about.  I have not the slightest clue what the federal government here does for this type of care, but can certain start to check.  I think Alien is one province over from me so their rules are probably different, but there should be information available.

/but I don't think there's a box for "Kicking cancer's ass for so long and now needs to tell the universe to back off"

First she would be required to exhaust her EI sickness benefits (15 weeks) and any private insurance benefits she may be entitled to.  Then she can apply for CPP disability (federal), which can take 3-6 months to process, and may involve being denied and having to appeal (they routinely deny 75% of applicants; probably hoping you will just give up), which can take another 3-6 months, but with good chance of success.  At the same time she can apply for BCPWD (provincial), same sort of waiting times & BS.  Any CPPD benefits she may qualify for will then be deducted from her monthly BCPWD benefits, ensuring that she will only ever be able to receive monthly, a maximum of about $900 (plus medical/pharm costs and small amounts for other assorted necessities).

However, if she wants to work and considers herself able to work, both agencies will tell her to take a leap.  It can be pretty discouraging.  The only other option is the big W, which will get her about $600/month.  In a city where the cheapest shiathole one-room apartment in skid row costs over $500, it doesn't go far, but is still better than a kick in the ass.  There are numerous advocacy agencies that can help people apply for these programs, and can probably point her toward assisted living too.  I sent her some info about these before, but don't know whether she was able to look into them.  Would be happy to dig it up again and re-send if she would like.

But yeah srsly universe, give that lady some peace!

What a caturday alien might look like

I can only assume on top of the TV is next..

Oh, hey, resident experts - anyone have experience with those scent-deterrents? Abby is free-jumping up on the kitchen counters now and besides picking her up and gently putting her down on the floor with a "stay dowwwwwn" I'm out of ideas on how to curb the behaviour.. she's in love with the sink and running water.

TV-top unlikely, methinks..  Speaker-top offers three things the TV doesn't..  A corner/cubby-hole (TV makes a safe wall), magnets (at least two 'super' magnets in that unit..mebbe three..looks like might have a mini-tweeter..  Cats..and many other critters..can sense that..), and vibration (if the speakers are on/active while they're up there..)  The TV just can't compete..  ;)

Fer the counter-hopping..?  Squirt bottle and resolve/vigilance..seriously..  My cat (rest o'the houshold hates him) is a counter-jumper..but, with squirt-bottle training..he runs from the kitchen or *immediately* is down from the counter the moment any human enters the room..  Only issue is overnite, when is unlikely a human would be around..  Solution..?  DON'T LEAVE OPEN FOOD ON THE COUNTER OVERNIGHT...!

By Bast, If I could *just* get the other two in the house to *understand* that..98% of the problems would go away..

But, I rant..  :P   Seriously..  Squirt bottle..

Mrs CDK: Somewhere in this thread I thought I saw sherpa mention his elephant...  Here it is:

YES!  That is exactly what I was referring to, I just did not have time to look for it... Thank you!! For everyone else - I have always had a thing for elephants since I was a very small child, they were (and still are) my most favorite animal .. besides cats of course.

And since I ONCE AGAIN had to dive face first into a box of pics that I did not even remember I had until earlier this evening, and then found this, I felt obligated to leave you with a pic of a very young sherpa hugging his first elephunt :o)

//then again every one of my cats has been the most awesome cat ever

Easter for me is the official opening day for yard work. As always I pay no mind to the fact that I spent the entire winter on my ass in the house and I end up overdoing it. I got pooploads of stuff done but I.AM.BEAT. Think I may have gotten a little sunburn as well.

Going to relax on the porch for a bit. BBL

I got my totally awesome beans going in the crock pot so they can cook for the day. I'm waiting for it to warm up a bit before I head outside for yard work, and stuff.

I have my mothers Easter bread in the oven, made the hot potato salad, just have to catch Frodo and then I am off to my son and daughter in laws house for the feasting. (we are NOT eating Frodo)!
He has grown into a fine feathered fowl but King George spends too much time harassing him through the fence. My son has a nice big safe pen for him and we moved six of the speckled hens over there last month. He will be head of his own little kingdom and  George will be much happier with Frodo gone.
Have to run now BBL.

Oh..about to be a *bit* verbose, again..just 'membered something I meant to say well afore that last long post..  This one's all "Caturday" it is..  :)

Went outside about 6:45am to grab some wood fer the stove..just a little afore actual sunrise..but more than bright out enuff to see things just fine..  Now, we live on the side of a hill in a verra rural community..occasionally have dairy cows in our backyard..  :P  So, I go to get the wood and look downhill..there, about 200' away, is Orange..sitting in the middle of the road..facing the driveway of our closest (only) neighbor in that direction..and, in the middle of the drive..about 75' back from the road, is Fernando..a well-fed neighborhood stray who does not belong to the neighbor..but, essentially, lives there..

Fernando..who's in the 12lb range..has his fur up, reared back and hissing..  Orange..8lbs soaking sitting there, head tilted, just looking at him..

I step off the porch onto the steps to get the wood..Orange turns his head to look at me..  I look at him..a good 4-5 seconds pass..

Then he gets up and *runs*..I mean "like a cheetah" runs to me..  By this time I've the wood I want (wheelbarrow at bottom of steps) and am stepping back onto the porch..he slows to a trot and follows me in the house..taking a sharp right turn to run up to my room (to avoid our youngest just thinks he and Orange are the same size and Orange wasn't in the mood to be refreshing any lessons, t'day..  ;)  )..and waits fer me there..

Sounds simple-cute, yah..  But, is the first time he's ever done that..  Had him since a kitten..he's about 3 1/2..and no other human in the house likes him..tho' he and the dogs (when the younger isn't being a rambunctious pain) love each other like kind'a-odd brothers..they grew up t'gether..puppy's a year younger..

Orange will trot or run across the room fer food..dash behind me when his 'brother' wants to play and he doesn't..  But he's *never* crossed 200' of landscape at a dead run just at the sight of follow me in and come and curl up on my bed while I did my other reason..

I haz a warm fuzzy..

(need to get some action shots of him..)

Deathbymeteor: *yawn* Morning Caturday folks (whomever is up at this wretched hour).  Early shifts are no fun, but being able to use the bike to get to and from work means I get to spend just a little bit more time at home (like 45 minutes total) instead of walking to trains, or walking to buses, or walking to work.

I think B the 8 legged is sorting herself out, as she usually does.  She still keeps a watchful eye on her water dish, but she's also decided to spruce up her foam log house with a new web coating, and a new web mat for when she's laying about.  I'm hoping that keeping her water dish filled more often will reinforce the idea of "This is for wets, not webs", but we shall see.

Happy Easter to all, and to all, good noms.

Oh this reminded me, well..whatever..  Snake feeding nite (well overdue)..  Moving to top-priority, now (Kate would not be happy, did I not..)..  I often thought about arachnids..but, many many years ago, had a *really* good two-year run with giant millipedes that ended in sudden, unexplained colony failure..  I gave up on the exo-skelled critters, about then..  :/

Blessed B (pun fully intended) on this Easter Holiday..

Real Women Drink Akvavit: Hai! *frantic waving* I had my medicines adjusted and one changed on Purrsday and I am having the interesting dreams. I have done the sleepwalking before, too. My ex used a belt from one of my robes to tether one of my ankles to his so it would wake him up if I started wandering off in my sleep. The obstacle course arrangement did not work on me, because I navigated through it perfectly. Then I'd start baking or cooking dinner - in my sleep. We were afraid I'd burn the house down, not leave it. I don't know why I started sleepwalking in the first place, but I also seem to have stopped. I haven't done that in years even with the medications.

*pawavies back!*

I'm not getting anything med is an old friend from long ago..the other is a new-kid-on-the-block, fer me..  Adjustments may follow, as the treatment begins  Today ..!  Imagine that..!  You and the rest o'the Caturday clowder will get to see me rise and fall in as near real-time as I can manage..  ;)

Honestly, I'm really hoping fer the dreams..  *grin*   Almost two years back, I had major oral surgery and a 7-day course of hydrocodone (oxycodone..?  I never remember..the really,  really addictive one..which is why only 7 days worth, to be taken only 'as needed'..)..  Well, I took that first one..  15-min fade out to black..and then..?  The most *WONDERFUL* dreams..  :D  The remaining six became as gold, to be saved for only my very worst days..of anything..let the lesser pain pills handle the surgery..  Took me 4+ months to use those six pills..  Never felt a need or craving for them..but there have been many days since that I so very miss them..  :P

The sleepwalking thing, as said, is something I've never done..  First (and only) wife did, a I have strong familiarity with it and my background is strong in life-sciences and medical  Dunno why it even came to mind.  Finally made the call, after ruling out alcohol as any significant issue, to begin both..and began thinking of possible responses..  "Oversleeping"..well, duh..  "Odd dreams"..yes please..!!!  *BAM*  "Sleepwalking"..wait..what..?  Why..?

We shall all soon see..  ;)

Hope the modified meds settle out and do you far better than the formulation being re-modded was, fer you..  Sounds like things are off to a good, if confuzzling, start..  *grin*

Now..  I am about to seriously mangle names, methinks..  I have finished the thread to the point of the post from  RWDA that I am replying to..and am now going to attempt to say a couple things..  Keep in mind, I no longer have any idea how long I've been awake..pushing fer two more hours (minimum) so's I can eat and take meds at a time I wish to be the starting point of my dosage sched..have *no* idea of my initial reaction to those meds..and am doing about fifty other things at the same time..  Scrolling up, down, back, forth..ain't gunna happen..don't even know how I'm still comprehending the written word..will be working purely from lousy memory..  :D

- First..  Happiest Wishes to all celebrating Birthdays and other posted HAPPY events, this Caturday..!  I wish I could do so by name..
- Cabbage - successfully turning a Caturday thread into an EO-Elephant thread so seamlessly..  I am impressed..  One of your captions mentioned "otter"..(my 'other' spirit animal, when Mistress Bast isn't thinking I'm thinking she's thinking I'm looking..  ;P  )..what can you do with that one..  *chuckle*  And, if I've not already, tanks fer all the captions of my Orange..  He love's 'em..but refuses to admit it..
- Regarding very sorry for the loss..  You don't need me to tell you what everyone else is saying..but, was no fault of yours..  I have been almost  exactly right told your short story and my mind flashed back and wrote a trilogy..  If you want to talk, EIP..  What I can say won't be exactly happy..which is why I's not putting here..but it will be honest and *could* be some measure of closure..  Or, just talk about good times..your cats and mine..there's many routes to healing..  :)
sherpa..!  There you are..!  "Downtime" is  important..  =)  Hang in there, baby! (okay..  I'm old..  You all get that..right..?  Right..?!)  Things will turn your way and we're here for you..  What little help I can offer is yours for the asking as you fight to get everything back into order..  It is going to be alright..
laluja , thank you fer the "PO Box Mishap of 2014"..I'm certain it will be joyfully yowled about fer years to come..  ;)  And thank you, as well, fer your constant and unwavering herding of us all, like so many cats..  (I think there's a metaphor in there, somewhere's..)  [umm..on a purely selfish note..I somehow completely missed yer shortwave connection..  I'm familiar that many here..Dittybopper first comes to mind..are in that community..but you seem rather uniquely poised to offer a proper starting point..?  Have long been interested..used to have a *very* old Realistic rig..mic and everything..ran a 250' antenna cable across our yard, as a teen (I'm a *bit* older now), and listened..but never went further..  Would like to..  Danke, in advance..]

Okay..those the main hits..  Awesome catptioning, this week..!  I'll stop talking, fer now..will respond, in the next couple, if responded to..and work on wrapping my day up and getting back here t'morrow..  Okay, okay..  I know..  Will not be so verbose..  Pinky-swear..!

*yawn* Morning Caturday folks (whomever is up at this wretched hour).

Didn't one of your kittehs "get lost" on Easter week? If I recall correctly.....a few years back?

Yes, Simba on Easter Sunday late afternoon 2010. Plus my Dad had a stroke on Easter Sunday 2012. I have a couple other issues with this 'holiday' as well.

I have not seen that one before! Thanks! :-D

Metal heads seem to love our critters, especially cats. Someone made a snarky comment about that a few years back and I rightfully pointed out that liking cats - or really any non-human animal at all - more than you like most people was about as metal as you can get as were cats themselves in both artistic forms of expression and their general cattitude.

The evidence is indisputable.
(for those who do not know, that is Grumpy Cat inspiring King ov Hell, Gaahl and in the last three, Abbath - little Tardar Sauce is so metal!)

SeikaArashi: When I hop on computer I'll go back and read the thread. Mobile can be a pain. @.@

Got some sad news to report. My almost 18 year old cat, Mallow, passed away on Monday. I'm still pretty torn about it, not only because I have lost my child that's been with me since I was 10, but also because I felt like I killed him. :(

I had given all of the cats a bath on Sunday but Mallow acted pretty weird after his... As far as I know he seemed fine before I gave him a bath (but now I think about it... Last Saturday I gave him the option to go outside for a bit (with my supervision of course) and he didn't budge from his resting spot... Which should've struck me as odd there) but he still ate his wet food just fine. The more the night went on, the more lethargic he seemed to get. I pretty much had him glued to my side the entire night before I put him downstairs on a blanket (that way he had easier access to the litter box). Woke up the next morning and he was at his place at the bottom of the steps where he waits for me to wake up, but... He was gone. :( I was torn. Everyone had told me I didn't kill him but it feels like I did...

Today's my birthday too (28 woo) but its hard to celebrate it when the thought of Mallow gone is still in my mind.

Oh, no! I am so sorry for you. :'-( I know what you mean about feeling guilty even though you know you didn't do anything wrong and in fact were a damn good friend to your fuzz butt baby. You're just torn inside. I'm still going through the same thing with Moo.

You did nothing wrong, and neither did I with Moo - and we both need to keep hearing that and eventually we'll believe it. It feels like I'll never let it go, because the pain is still fresh, and I'm sure you'll go through the same thing. However, you did not a thing wrong and you did not kill Mallow. He knew you loved him, which is why he was glued to your side.

When my Mr Marmalade died some years back, he was 23 years old. My son was 25. So I know how badly you're taking that loss. You spent a major portion of your life with Mallow, just like my son spent nearly his entire life up to that point with Marm. That pain and loss won't go away overnight. Try and remember the goofy good times and you'll end up just like me with Moo and my son with Marm - crying and laughing at the same time when you remember all the silly, fun things you did together. You gave Mallow a good life, so as hard as it is to do, just do your best to remember all the good things you and Mallow enjoyed together. Without you his life would have been much, much different because it would be without you. That really does matter.

Hai all! I'll try to catch up later, but meanwhile I'm currently sorting and trying to reduce the amount of Christmas stuff I have, and something hit me - wasn't there someone here who had a thing for singing stuffed animals? If so, PLEASE get in touch with me - I have hit the motherload (so far: a frog, a cow, a reindeer, a moose, and a duck - I already tossed the singing pointsetta). Also, if one of you could cross post this to the Caturday FB crew it would be greatly appreciated. Hope to bbl.....

/my mom is out running recon on that fauxscue right now
//I told her not to come back without pie for tomorrow, so hit the grocery next door
///notice I did not ask for a cat, even though I really wanted one and Gogh needs a friend

Is it possible that Junior ate too fast, and swallowed a lot of air?

That was a theory of ours - our favorite one, matter of fact. Junior was found as a hungry, dirty kitten behind a restaurant that friend went to all the time. He chased Junior down, scooped him up and then quit going to the restaurant because the guy who owned the joint was a dirty kitten hating sack of shiat. We kinda figured Junior got used to the dishwashers and cooks slipping him food when they could and then eating that food as fast as kittenly possible before Big Scary Mean Wannabe Kitten Kicker (with thankfully terrible aim and horrible balance) went after him. One of the waitresses saw friend catch Junior and was going to take him, but friend said "Nuh-uh. I caught him, he's mine" - and that was that.

Whar is RWDA??? Lady, you better not be really sick again!!!! That will merit a spanking! :D

It is just before 1am, so the very beginning of Caturday Proper, and I am trying to get caught up. I am not any more ill than I have been the last months, so holding steady there. Just had my meds adjusted Purrsday and having a hard time because of it. :-/ But hey! While the med adjustment did nothing at all to stop the muscle spasms and pain, they were adjusted straight to "no longer gives a shiat she's had uncontrollable muscle spasms and pain for months now" levels, so that's something! I'm also getting caught up on sleep, which I did not know I needed to do. There might be a connection, yes?

I am probably going to take a nap after I get caught up, then after I wake up I'll check my email and go from there. I am around though, so everyone give each other hugs and skritches and stuffs for me, please!

Here, have a cabbit
