(Oregon Live)   There are lots of things you can teach a six-year-old. How to ride a Harley Davidson by himself probably shouldn't be one of them   (oregonlive.com ) divider line 18

Got mixed emotions on this. Bet you can't wipe the smile off the kids face.

I bet the asphalt can.

Subby, are you saying that a 6 year old can't wait on the curb for a tow truck, next to a giant pool of oil?

Derp, you don't steer a motorcycle with the handlebars. You steer it by leaning.

That being said, you have 60% of the braking and all of the throttle being controlled by a little kid. So basically you are giving that power over to someone with the maturity level of the average sport bike rider.

I have no problem with this at all. In fact, it was my one year old that piloted our Harley Soft Tail to the marina the day we departed in our leaky sailboat for our round the world sail. And she had just come off of a major attack of salmonella. She's a rock!

I showed my 4 year old how to use the throttle on the farm ATV (Suzuki 180, not that powerful, only used to get around and carry a bucket of feed) a few weeks ago.

I forgot to explain to him that you don't need to push the throttle all the way in...almost ran into the barn.

Oh, and don't worry, I was on the ATV with him.  He laughed the entire time while I almost had a heart attack.

As a responsible Society we must immediately:

1. Ban all parents
2. Ban all children
3. Ban all motorcycles

.. it's the only way.

Deacon Blue: Yeah, but if the kid starts riding at 6, just imagine how badass he'll be at 20

You mean with the big scar down his calf?  When I was a kid, my step mom came home from work one day and told me she just spent over an hour scrubbing gravel out of some biker's wounds.  (She was a nurse.)  "Don't ever get a motorcycle.  It's not worth it.  And, as much of a badass he was this morning, that guy was crying like a baby before I even got started with the stiff brush."

Of course, I got a motorcycle when I grew up.  Then another.  :)

1. Wrong, Moron.  Bar input is required to initiate a change n direction.  Next time you think you have an opinion about something you know nothing about that you wish to share with the internet, shove a stapler up your ass instead.

2. The Father has the rear brake handy to regulate speed regardless of throttle input.  Also, how about you study out how gyroscopic precession works.

3. My dad did the -exact- same thing with me when I was a kid on his Honda CB-750K and we didn't end up dead.   Exactly the opposite, years later I have a case full of trophies from my motorcycle roadracing adventures.

Enjoy your bubble wrap, and try not to scream too loudly at the sound of your own farts.

Absolutely incorrect. You steer the motorcycle by countersteering, and that involves the handlebars. People who think they are steering by leaning do not understand the mechanics. You countersteer to initiate the turn. If you don't believe me, take your bike up to about 60, take your hands off the bars, and try to take it through a corner just be leaning. When I'm taking a corner at 90, I push down HARD on the bars to snap into the turn. Any racer will tell you the same.

That is 100% true, it has something to do with friction, physics, and some other stuff that I don't recall from my motorcycle safety course I took in 1990.

Erm...you do it by countersteering. Study it out.

Your sport bike quip is mildly amusing, what, coming from someone who seems to know so little, but inject an opinion nonetheless.

I'm out of line here. On phone and in a hurry. Also slightly drunk.

Kid is at least wearing a helmet and that's doing better than most people that ride a Harley.

I find the kid riding in a t-shirt and shorts to be the offensive part of this video.  That's just bad parenting.
