ballseye: Canada's Wonderland never had a reputation for unsafe rides.

Dumping a very slight five year old into the deer enclosure with a handful of food pellets isn't technically a ride.
But it should be!

/Still HATES deer.

Really? I've been going there almost every year for 20 years, and I've never heard of someone being seriously injured. I'm sure it occasionally happened, but Canada's Wonderland never had a reputation for unsafe rides.

I can't find any statistics, but I found a Globe and Mail article from last year claiming that there's hasn't been a death there in 33 years of operation:

Also, for us Rochester people, Seabreeze in back the early nineties was terrific place to get high/injured.
The gang fights and general disrepair only added to the aura of fun.

Ah yes. I went there as a kid. A death trap. However, I did see my first set of real boobies there (except my Mom's). Some teenage girl came shooting out of one of the water slides with her bikini top missing. This still pops up occasionally when I'm in my bunk.

And that was 'Shakes'.  Ol' Shakes started working there when he was in his 40's.  Just widowed or divorced or something.   He was a maintenance man / cleaner.   When he was around, you knew that the boys washrooms would be spotless.  Always made sure of that.  Died of a heart attack that weekend of the Scouts National Jamboree.   Guess the mess was too much for him to contemplate.  Or something like that.  Must have been there for 20 years or so.

That's because it's all hush-hush. They feed the dead to the carnivorous deer.

Marisyana:Hi, I'm Mari, I'm from New Jersey and I'm one of the Survivors of Cannonball Loop at Traction ParkTM.

It's like spotting a unicorn.

ManateeGag: Ah, Traction Park.  With it's asphalt pathways and zero safety regulations.  I almost crippled myself a few times there.

Me too.

Good times.

I remember watching this from the bridge when I was last there, a lifetime ago. Me and the person I was with were wedgie watching. Literally EVERY SINGLE PERSON who got off of that thing had a wedgie and tried to subtly pick it.

I love waterslides, but if it isn't on rails, I'm not going upside down. I do NOT understand how that ride was ever green lit.

Before someone calls me on it, I was clearly mistaken. Judging by the time it was open, it was obviously another waterslide there. This place is a ski resort in the wintertime, it's all uphill so looking down was pretty common for the whole park.

Jersey in the 80s was a magical time and place.

Iblis824: I grew up in westchster in the 80s.  In the summer we would either go to Action park or Six flags.   Action Park was a scary fun place.  The Alpine slde was made to cut the skin off your legs.  The cliff jump was crazy.  I remember goign down the tube ride next to it once, and a rider in frotn of me didnt have enough moementum to go over the hump before teh 2nd water fall.  So as i came over the top of the first, i nailed him with my tube causing me to get stuck andd wait for the next rider to assualt me over the side.

What other park could you go to that had bumper boats??

Reading your post was enjoyable, but I also felt like I was having a stroke. Holy missing and transposed letters, Batman.

Dr Jack Badofsky: I doubt it's the same way now, but back in the mid-80s there was a newly-opened water park in VA area not far from the beach.  It was mid-week and the place was empty.  I remember the lifeguards not caring if you went down the waterslides in an innertube, using a mat, or just by yourself.  The tube was scary, as you're just a couple inches from the top of the rails, and some of the corners were not really equipped to handle a tube on them (not to mention it was about 25' straight down if you fell out).  The best way was to go on the palm of your hands and keep your feet flat down, and keep your butt in the air.  You were gaining speed the whole way down.

If the beach you're referring to is Virginia Beach, then you'd be talking about Gorilla Falls (when it only had like 5 mat slides), later expanded and renamed Wild Water Rapids, and is now called Ocean Breeze Water Park.  Loved going there when I was a kid!

...uuummm, plenty of parks have bumper boats.

Ah, i forgot.  Bumper boats that lead to broken legs due to their size and power.

I went thru the tube and exited with a giant headache. My head just banged around on the sides of the tube! Plus they put slides down on the ground, over hard rocks and clay--terrible and painful! I hated that place,

Wild Water Rapids sounds familiar. I could not believe how slack the rules were! They just installed one of those near-vertical slides too, where it had the flight bump halfway down and you got airborne for a few feet. Good times.
