The earth is the most haunted planet in the solar system. The remains of billions of people are buried there. Ooooooooh, spooooooky. Gullible dopes.

Weirdly enough, you don't have to believe in ghosts to get the creeps from such places. Sometimes the horrible history is enough. I don't believe in specters, but you couldn't pay enough money to go to Auschwitz

raerae1980: If I had the money, I'd lease it! It sounds like a really cool place to live. Italy, plagues, suicides...oh yeah. Sign me up!

Considering it's in Venice, Italy, it's probably insanely expensive and that's why it is abandoned, not because it is haunted. It costs too much to demolish and rebuild or renovate the buildings.

Also, it's not like the rest of whatever land exists in Venice isn't as full of plague graves as that island. The city was plague central.

Amazing that so many ghost hunters have been there but were unable to bring back any kind of documentation of supernatural activity on the island.  One guy was possessed briefly?  What, did the ghost possess him then think, fark this, this guy's breath is terrible?

This is some brilliant history writing: "The trouble started back in the late 19th century when Poveglia served as a checkpoint for ships going to Venice. After a pair of ships carrying plague victims arrived in 1793, the island was sealed off..."

nitefallz: There's no evidence this place ever was anything that is being told about it.  There's another island nearby that WAS absolutely used for plague victims and I think this is a case of fiction and mis-represented history becoming urban-fact.

I did some minor research into this awhile back when it was featured on TV as being haunted.  Mostly came up with info indicating this is the wrong island.

Wait, did you hear that... Omg look... Something moved... Oh man... This shiat is haunted for sure... Look! Look! Omg! Wow...

/isn't that a summary of every farking ghost hunter episode?

Yeah, but do you want to be on the demo crew if they put in a new hotel there?

Piles and piles of the remains if plague victims.....pass.

London has the most extensive underground railway system in the world and is practically built on the corpses of plague victims. So far no zombie apoca.....

Slaves2Darkness: Beats me, but my friends call me a null void. I kill Ouija boards, end hauntings, and stop supernatural crap. Course I'm an atheist and don't believe in any of that shiat, but hey keep farking those ghost chickens.

Same.  Atheist from early on, never really believed in the supernatural once I got past the "had a bad dream and want to sleep with mommy and daddy" phase.  But there is one weird thing:

Three separate "psychics," over the course of five years, and three separate occasions, were reading auras as a sort of party trick.  Each one looked at me, would ask me to move to a different light, and would confusedly proclaim that I had no visible aura.  Just, you know, nothing.

Happen once, I'd say the person was trying to be mysterious.  Second time is a cool coincidence.  Three times, even my skeptical mind started to wonder what the hell that meant.  I assume there is some sort of web group out there on  Google+ that shares pictures of a random ten people that says "Tell this person he has no aura.  Will creep him the f**k out."

/make of that what you will

I would build a throne of skulls in the lighthouse and stare menacingly out to sea every night.

You know; for the lols... until the rotating lantern drove me mad, then it would be for real.

As many as 100,000 people are believed to have died there. The island's soil is said to be heavily mixed with human ash and bone - so much so that it's five feet higher than it was.

Or hey maybe they finally proved the existence of ghosts there and I just didn't hear about it.

Additional bonus tourist attraction feature -- the island is documented to have been on at least 160,000 people's bucket lists.
