It's easy to make fun, but at least with no bread, the "sandwich" is low carb.

Tried it when it came out the first time.  Wasn't horrible, wasn't great.  It's entirely about presentation.  Give someone a Double Down, they act grossed out.  Take the exact same items (2 chicken filets, a slice of cheese, lettuce and some dipping sauce) and put them on a plate, and nobody would care.

Wouldn't the breading on the chicken kind of cancel that out?

That depends, is the "breading" on a KFC piece of chicken, bread?
The 11 herbs and spices I find listed appear to be just spices, though I don't know if there may be other things added.

The one I had did, yes. Though I am in Canada so maybe they wanted ours to be more healthy!

It's a bastardization of Chicken Cordon Bleu. When I was on Atkins, I would pick one up, with grilled filets. No lettuce in this hot mess.

Just don't tell the low carb dieter about the calories, sodium, or any other levels of things in it. Otherwise you're going to get awfully messy when they pop...

wiki: According to the KFC Web site, a fried Double Down has  540 calories, 290 of them from fat (that's 32 grams of total fat, 10 of them saturated and .5 trans fats). It also delivers 1,380 milligrams of sodium. (A grilled version has 80 fewer calories and 9 fewer grams of total fat -- but 50 more milligrams of sodium.)

Less calories than I would have expected.

The calories aren't really the problem with the Double Down. The highlighted section above is the major problem of that abomination. The recommended daily intake of sodium is 1500 mg for some perspective. KFC should put warnings for people with high blood pressure on that thing.
