So, 15 years after he tries to seduce an older man to get a part in a film he decides to sue?

"Hollywood has a problem with the sexual exploitation of children," said Egan's attorney, Jeff Herman, who handles sexual abuse cases across the country. "This is the first of many cases I will be filing to give these victims a voice and to expose the issue."

Judging by his role in Captain America, I don't think we will have long to wait.

Yeah, and he shouldn't have dressed so sexy and what was he doing there anyway and Singer paid for dinner so he's entitled...

Any other rape myths you want to add to the gumbo? Or is "blame the victim" enough for you?

(I don't actually know if singer is guilty, but it's a less interesting story if the allegations are false)

I'm sure he'll just be Polanskied in.

I mean, Hollywood will look the other way, right?

If you look at the cast of the original X-men movie, the character of Pyro has one speaking line and Alex Burton (the actor in question) didn't have a single credited role before the movie or any further after it.  He would have been 18 when the movie was filmed.

At the time, there were a few tabloid speculations about that, but frankly if a straight director had given a cameo to his girlfriend or a pretty face he had met at a club, no one would have cared.

Age of consent is 16.....

2014-04-17 10:21:55 AM
Missing something here.  If the boy was 17 years old in 1999, the statute of limitations would have began to run when he turned 18 (2000).  In my state, he would have one year  from the time of the incident to bring an action against a Defendant for this kind of thing.  Seems like an easy dismissal.

2014-04-17 10:26:13 AM
Ok just read the article.  Hawaii's statute is more forgiving but it still sounds like the kid has a statute of limitations problem.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I have always thought rape not happening is better than it actually happening.

Well, duh; now adays, children are up to age 26! "Won't someone think of the Children?" Depends on which neighborhood watch captain is patrolling your block. But in the same daily "Fark.com" we get articles about children as young as 4 and 5 handling firearms and shooting handguns, then too, we have 17 yr olds being treated as minors/ juvenilles by the court system. SO, yeah, its okay to call a 17 yr old a boy ( as long as he's not black!).

This guy is just a beast. I am predicting a storm of outrage that will play havoc with his career. This doesn't seem like the actions of a rogue 17 year old, but rather a magnetic older man using his image and mystique to take advantage. Fortunately his little gambit has failed.

I don't think you acounted for a sneaky little x-factor... Brooding for years to forge a case like this means Singer could rise like a phoenix in the end.

This story says it was in 1995 and the boy was 15. Same name, but odd how the stories do not match up.

Can he stonewall the case somehow? Or will the accuser cannonball right on through? Will the public call for penance? Man, this case is just gonna suck the marrow out of everyone.

Not that it makes it right, but I always assumed this is what Hollywood was like.  Sex, rape...bunch of starjammers.

Polanski's victim has forgiven him, so I can still enjoy watching his movies. Victor Salva, considering how his camera lingers on shirtless teenage boys, not so much.

/would never see a Polanski-directed adaptation of Lolita

At this rate, any sentence has a three to one longshot of including the name of at least one X-Man.

Do you know what happens to a 17-year-old penis when it is struck by Bryan Singer? The same thing happens to everything else.

This. If that same 17 year old committed an offensive enough violent crime they'd have no problem at all charging him as an adult.

This sounds like a far fetched villain in a white supremacist's novel.

Warlordtrooper: Age of consent is 16.....

No, it varies from state to state. In California, it's 18. Bronski Beat provided a handy guide to European laws on the inner sleeve of their great album called --wait for it-- Age of Consent:

I think Bryan Singer might want to move to Hungary.

gshepnyc: This. If that same 17 year old committed an offensive enough violent crime they'd have no problem at all charging him as an adult.

17 year olds can join the Army (with parents consent) and go off and kill people too. make America safe for Democracy too.

No, she hasn't.

tl;dr - she's tired of the publicity and being a "symbol" for rape victims, and just wants the case resolved.

The age of consent in Hawaii is 16. There is however a close-in-age exemption, which allows those aged 14 and 15 to consent to sex with those less than five years older.
