Pfft. It's pretty obvious that it is a plastic model created for the moon landing sound stage and the ridge is where the plastic seeped between the halves of the mold when it was cast.

In all fairness, mathematicians are the ones who solve problems. Scientists are much more about amassing evidence. So, yeah, subby is technically incorrect, but the kind of solution you're asking for isn't something that science really does.
