Now, now! I'm sure that there will be plenty of obvious CGI.

/ I just hope that they'll go back to what made Star Wars great; a western, but, in space

// and no comic relief in the form of amphibious idiots; R2 and C3PO are enough

I'm sad they aren't staying true to the films. How can they shoot in Abu Dhabi instead of Tanzania? They are two completely different places!

Jesus, don't fark this up, Jar Jar.

You're thinking of Tunisia. Tanzania is several thousand miles to the southeast of Tunisia and is a different climate. As for choosing Abu Dhabi over Tunisia - Tunisia is where the Arab Spring started and things still haven't settled down there enough for shooting to take place. Also, the Tatooine scenes in Return of the Jedi were filmed in California and Arizona, so there is a precedent.

Does the script treatment still end with "and then the Gungans and the Ewoks finally convince Han that the only weapon powerful enough to vanquish the Sith...is dance!"

The only way these movies could turn out worse is if they were directed by Bryan Singer. Jake Lloyd dodged a penis-shaped bullet.

/seriously, even with the return of the original 3, this trilogy will probably be just another sad money grab

Of course I want it to be good, but it will be made with today's sensibilities...

:(

Acting in films has been outright embarrassing for 10 strong years. Compare the acting from earlier decades to this one and it's plain to see.

Today's actors are way too melodramatic.  Yes, even for Star Wars.

Interesting set pic. While I loathed the prequels, I think it is a nice touch to go back Tatooine for a bit. Obiwan spent his twilight years there, so perhaps Luke has done the same. Both of the Trilogy sets had beginnings there so it is familiar to audience. As long as they avoid attempts kitschy pod racing things, thinly veiled racist comedy, and create bearable dialogue... the movie would already be leaps and bounds better than the prequels.

I admit I wasn't completely amazed by the new Star Trek movies, but even if the new set of three Star Wars movies turn out like that, they won't be terrible.

The pod racing was horrible. Star Wars dialogue has always been horrible, but Watto's 10 minutes of screen-time was that big a deal? Really? No mention of Jar-Jar, but Watto rated a mention? Dudes like Watto totally exist, and aren't hard to find.

Also, the two recent ST movies were farking horrible. They did what they were meant to do, of course. All kinds of tards out there calling themselves 'trekkies' cause they loved those piece of shiat movies, but those were NOT Star Trek.

Have you watch original Trek? I'll give you everything after was largely dirtied by hamfisted morality/political nonsense, NextGen especially (NG was largely a farking circle jerk). Original Series, though....that was perfection.

Unless you mean popcorn movies for dummies...then yes, I see your point.

I wanna know if VII will have decent names like 4,5, & 6 or kid friendly names like Count Dooku, General Grievous. How about president bad guy, Hiro Worrywart, General Displeasure, Aunt agony,  and George should've stopped.

I've seen all of them... save for about half of Voyager and much of Enterprise's last season.  And yeah, NextGen was something to give the MST3K treatment to, most of the time.

Wrong, you're thinking of Turkmenistan. Tunisia is a million miles away and covered in snow. Their main export is tunics, hence their name.

Greedo. Droopy McCool. Klaatu. Barada. Nikto. Wooof. Hermi Odle. General Dodonna. Porkins. Wedge Antilles. Hell even Chewbacca really.

Everyone considers "Boba Fett" to be a bad ass name now, but imagine being over 20 (or worse, over 30) in 1980 and first hearing the name that sounds like "Bob is fat".

Not criticizing their choice of names. The names are supposed to be cheesy and corny like 1940s sci-fi serials. Ironic names, even. It's not supposed to be "badass names" so to speak, though after almost 40 years, the context has changed.

IIRC Luke Skywalker was named Annikin Starkiller in early drafts of the Star Wars script.

Have you watched Jedi recently?  Harrison Ford looks like he's soped up and can't make eye contact with anyone in a scene with him.  And he talks without moving his mouth or lips.  Watch it again, watch his mouth the whole time.  You'll be angry I pointed it out.

Anyway, just saying, not great "acting" by any means (not defending Hayden Christianson, that was obviously horrible.  Just saying we remember the original trilogy through rose-colored glasses)

Also, the names have ALWAYS been stupid and although I didn't like the silly names from the original trilogy, the prequels with absolutely phoned in names like "Elan  Sleazebaggano" were the worst.

Really?  He a sleazebag who sells drugs and his name is Elan  Sleazebaggano?

What if poor Elan grew up to be a kindergarten teacher?  HIs parents doomed him to drugs, if you ask me!

But who am I kidding? I have two boys obsessed with the Clone Wars series so I will be seeing this in the theatre.

What are you talking about? The best TOS episodes were the morality play ones, that was what made TNG great and the best parts of DS9 was Sisko weighing the benefits of committing completely immoral acts for very moral reasons. Voyager farked that all up by giving Janeway a bunch of really goofy ethics, though by the later seasons of Enterprise they were getting things right again.

You sure you're a fan of science fiction and not just good old awesome space adventure? Not a flame, I'm a huge fan of Star Wars and pretty much any BSG that isn't taking place on modern Earth.

It's probably the backstage crew. Props, costumes, makeup, all the electronics that you don't want to leave out in the elements and to the mercies of the denizens of a third-world country.

Doug walker had an interested take on Hayden Christianson's acting.  He says that the scenes where Anikin isn't talking are pretty well acted so the majority of the blame should really fall on the writers.  I somewhat agree.

robohobo: Also, the two recent ST movies were farking horrible. They did what they were meant to do, of course. All kinds of tards out there calling themselves 'trekkies' cause they loved those piece of shiat movies, but those were NOT Star Trek.

That's true. If it was REAL Star Trek, they would have featured singing space hippies, Spock getting his brain removed, Kirk building a cannon to fight a lizard man, Christopher Lloyd playing a Klingon, Uhura doing a seductive fan dance, God needing a spaceship, Worf getting Klingon acne, Data using his butt as a flotation device, and the entire crew going down to a planet on dune buggies. In other words, if it was real Star Trek, it would have been a lot stupider.

Look, I'm a fan, a Trekkie if you will. And when Star Trek is good, it's good. The classic episodes still hold up, as do the few good movies. But Star Trek suffered from a high signal-to-noise ratio, and a lot of it wasn't as good as we choose to remember. And the movies weren't any better. Many of them sucked, and that includes the first Trek movie. (I haven't seen the director's cut but I've heard it's better.)

These latest movies, despite some glaring flaws, were good. And they belong in the Star Trek pantheon. It's hard to see past the nostalgia and not use our rose-tinted glasses to judge these latest efforts. Yes, the original series was groundbreaking television in many ways, no one's denying it. But it was also a space western and some of the episodes were really dumb. Nostalgia makes us overlook the flaws because we love the characters and because of how revolutionary the entire thing was.

It's too bad you didn't like the movies. (Or you're just being a contrarian.) But as a lifelong Trek fan, I enjoyed them and still rewatch them on occasion. If this new Star Wars movie is as good as these two Trek films were, I'll be a very happy camper.

What's most interesting to me about the picture is that the foot is clearly only a partial foot, and has the lower part removed so it will sit upright, on its side, in the sand, implying it's the bottom of a foot of a downed walked, reinforced by the fact that if it were staying on the ground, they probably wouldn't have bothered with the underside details.

It's entirely possible that the movie will feature more than one location.
