Sin_City_Superhero: When it's 115 degrees here in the Vegas desert, I strongly encourage y'all to chug your Guinness Extra Stouts, and your Heineken Darks. Me? I'll stick to a light, refreshing beer...like Bud Light.

I'll see your crap lite and raise you a Shiner Premium. Oh hell, I'll even throw in good ol' Bock as well. Shiner is just a good ol' drink'n beer, even the crafty stuff they put out every so often.

TuteTibiImperes: There are still flavorful beers that aren't expensive. A case of Yeungling usually isn't much more than Bug Light, and is a far better beer. A case of Sam Adams usually isn't much more than that and is better still.

Around where I live a case of Bud Light cost $15-$18 depending on where you get it. A twelve of Sam Adams or Yeungling cost $15.

But anyway the fancy premium and craft beers are for payday. The Buds, Millers and Coors of the world are for everyday that isn't payday and when you are supplying a large get together.

i usually just buy me some four lokos ... as an avid beer drinker barley wines are expensive and cheap vodaks are a little to much for every night .... everclear and OJ are the most cost efficient ... however its not the best when trying to drink at work ... I haqve said to much its time for bed.

Cranky McOldfart: revrendjim: I switched to light and ultra for everyday beer for health reasons (carbs and calories). As a homebrewer this is a little embarrassing, but I've lost 20 pounds so STFU.

I didn't know dignity weighed that much...

The hilarious part is that none of them realize that the primary caloric contributor to beer is ... alcohol. Malt profile plays a much smaller role, that's why a 12oz Guinness (4.2%) only has about 15 more calories than the most common Bud Light (also 4.2%). Lesson: if you actually want to cut back on your calories stop drinking beer you nitwits. Or go for a walk, fark. But downgrading to pisswater in the name of is pretty farking stupid no matter how you cut it.

Craft beers have lots of calories. I drink and enjoy a few on the weekends, but Bud Select and straight Bushmills maintain both my functional alcoholism and svelte figure.

I don't understand why this surprises anybody. Craft beers are expensive, and very few make light bodied beers, and by the time they make it to the local grocery store they aren't really craft brews anymore.

isn't that like complaining that a good hamburger costs more than mcdonalds?

Meh... Drink what you like and can afford.
Drink my share of craft/micro brews but my summertime go to is Coors Light or Bud Light.

Add a shot or two of your favorite Margarita mix (the stuff with alcohol) or Bud Limerita and Voilà! Lime flavored beer.

Grab a frosted glass 2/3 Summer Shandy and 1/3 Raspberry beer (Thirsty Dog preferably), pink lemonade!

/Power tools and high ABV do not mix well!
//Put some fruit in your beer!

This is a snapshot and is really meaningless.  Craft beer still is, and has been for about the last twenty years, the only category of beer experiencing growth.  Macros have been losing market share to wine and liquor for a while now.  Macro vs craft is still outrageously imbalanced only because it started, way back when, with pretty much zero American made craft beer and all macro.  Now craft is what, approaching 10% of beer sales by volume and almost 15% by dollar?  That's enormous.  Craft consistently grows by double digits per year.

It's still probably the best time there ever has been to be a beer drinker.  People that like macros still have them and people that like other choices are more and more getting access to them.  Everyone wins.

Anyone who drinks microbrewery beer also tends to:

1. Own a TV but haven't turned it on in years
2. Ride a bike to work wearing spandex stretch trousers
3. Watch Japanese children's cartoons on a Mac
4. Appreciate the warmth of vinyl phonograph records
5. Read books at Starbucks
6. Claim to prefer girls with small breasts
7. Make snide remarks about Wal-Mart.
8. Walk past a smoker and force pretentious coughing noises
9. Take comfort in believing size doesn't matter
10. Feign disgust at the idea of eating a Big Mac

Helps if you remember to log into the right account.

It's actually sad to know that there are people who have to make up alts so they seem relevant on a comment thread.

delysid25: I'm a huge IPA fan, I am preferential to Lagunitas Maximus...

Frankly, I like how the list lumps the sales numbers under the laughably vague "Lagunitas" category, like that's a kind of beer.

Jesus, why don't they just put all Bud products under the heading "Budweiser" and make it a bar 9 pages wide?

2014-04-17 08:51:15 AM
Eh. Bud light is cheap and plentiful, and for the price it's decent quality. I prefer spaten over any other mass produced beer and I drink craft beer on tap when available, but bud is a good go to beer for taste v. Price. There's a brew house nearby that has a lot of the well loved craft beer on tap, and while the price is high, nearly all of them contain higher Alcohol by volume. So arguably if you don't drink often you can swing it, but judging by the amount of self declared alcoholics on fark, I'm guessing a lot of the depression in this place comes from spending most of your paycheck on 20 dollar 12 packs (or double that) on expensive craft beer nightly.

NakedDrummer: At least America has the most craft breweries in the world.  Dunno why its always the target for bad beer when top selling beers around the world:

Canada - Labatt Blue (piss), Coors Light (piss)
Mexico - Corona (even more piss-like)
Netherlands - Heineken  (skunk flavored piss)
England - Carling (piss), Fosters (Australian for piss)
Belgium - Jupiler (piss), Stella (piss)
Czech - Gambrinus (piss), Urquell  (piss)
Australia - VB (piss)
Denmark - Carlsberg (piss)
and so on..

piss flavored lightweight lagers are 90% of sales for every country in the world.

I'm kind of with you in spirit, but quite a few of the drinks you call piss are not light lagers, like Urquell.  It's just a pilsner.  Maybe you just don't like the style, but there's a big difference (to me, anyway) between something like Urquell and an American-style "pilsner" that's brewed with rice.

grokca: Bud Lite Lime, best advertising campaign ever.
1.Take a crappy beer
2. put some artificial lime flavour in it.
3. higher profits.

What I don't understand, is in the UK, putting lime in a lager is the most girly thing you can possibly do, but over here it shown to be drunk by a bunch of guys. Perhaps things have changed in 12 years since I moved over to the US, but it It makes no sense to me. What next? Cider?

Well, in Germany it's quite common in the Bavarian region to mix Hefeweizen and lemonade, called a Radler.  Quite tasty and drank by huge rip your arms out of sockets and shove them down your neck footballers.

Pilsners are pale lagers and are lightweight.  Urquell is just as unimpressive as anything else on that list, IMO.  I drank many of them in Prague along with Budvar (which is just as crappy as Budweiser) as they were often the only choice.

Not a beer snob, just like to point out America has exploded on the craft beer front and has an impressive selection and that many European countries have fallen behind.  Used to be Belgian Trappist beers owned all the top rankings on beer advocate, but not so much now.

Well then it MUST suck. That's the only reason it sells so well, right. Kinda like how McDonalds managed to sell billions of burgers by making crap that nobody could possibly find appealing. Or how WalMart became the biggest retailer by having stores that no one shops in.

I will take a nice hefeweizen (Paulaner) or wheat ale (Oberon) over a 'light' beer any day in 115 degree weather. More refreshing and more ABV.

Why is this bad/sad?  There is no such thing as bad beer, only beer you happen to not like.  For every beer made there is a group who likes it.  And that is the way it should be -- make the beer match a group, don't try to make the "perfect" beer that nobody really likes.

I probably buy more Miller Lite than I do craft beers. Cheaper per can to buy it in bulk, good to have on hand, not like it'll go bad. So, I'll go down to the Fine Wine and get four sixers of craft beer and a 30 pack of Miller Lite.

/Math, it works, biatches.
