Yea, well I hated Buzzfeed before it was cool to hate Buzzfeed.

Just kidding, it was always cool to hate Buzzfeed.

Insisted that a remix was better than the original version?

How is this snobby? Everyone knows the remix of Ignition is better than the original (in addition to being hot and fresh out the kitchen.)

I arrange my records autobiographically. I can tell you how I got from Deep Purple to Howlin' Wolf in just 25 moves.

52/100

Not sure if I like Buzzfeed.
54 of 100.
I fibbed 17 times because I wasn't totally passionate about the answer.
Would've been 71.  Probably should make an appointment somewhere to
get this fibbing fixed.

/ nothing about 78's?

22-and am a music snob because the buzzfeed compilation didn't have any good artists like Hoagy Carmichael, Spike Jones or Martin Briley.

32/100... but mostly because I also included stuff I did as a teenager.  I'm far less of a music snob now at 39.

Half of those questions are about shaming others for liking something you don't like. I love music. Why would I want to shame someone who also loves music, simply because their taste is different?

9 of 100.

Yes, I sorted my records/CDs, but when you had as many as I did it gets hard to find what you want if there's no order to your collection.

And yes, I spent a lot of time fixing my metadata on my MP3s, but I had ripped them all with one of the early rippers that didn't do squat with the metadata and I needed to fix a lot of bad data. Modern ripping software (and direct downloads) has eliminated that problem.

And I've bought a few imports from bands thet never released their work in the States.

None of this is snobbery, however.

I'm listening to Der Blutharsch now.  They're Swiss.  You probably haven't heard of them.  Anyway, this one is from the late '90s.  They're really not worth listening to after 2000 or so.

2014-04-16 05:48:51 PM
I had 26 and most people consider me the most musically illiterate person they know because hell I do not even know anyone who plays an instrument. So that test is totally messed up.

22/ 100. Into music, but not snobby about it.

Yes, lossless recording is better.  I can always downcode into a lower format if I need or want to.  Why would I not want to keep CD quality?

Yes, I've driven many time more than 5 hours to see a band... because I don't live in farking NYC or LA.  The good stuff doesn't always come around here and well, mini vacation!

Yes, I've like some band better in their earlier years.    Other bands keep putting out good music.  Some people get old and just start sucking. Its life.

2014-04-16 05:56:17 PM
I got 42.  By and large because I worked at a club.

I wondered that too...I remember hearing KoRn's Freak on a Leash remix back in high school and thinking it was a lot better than the original.  At least, my friends and I did after we recovered from our initial confusion of hearing it on the radio while we were all completely blazed and weren't quite sure if the song was different or if we were just really, really high.

2nd question invalidates the test for me as for being culturally biased towards you young  farkers of the snowflake generation.

Skipped over someone on a dating site because they have bad taste in music?

What about us farkers that listened to music snob type music and married long before the invention of the internet? Now get off my lawn and go listen to your cruddy 21st century indie

43/100

but, i don't feel like a snob. i'm not cool.  i don't like shows (unless the venue provides me with a chair, a table, and drink service).  i'm not a musician.  I make up stories for jazz and classical songs without reading the liners, and I'm always way off the mark.

/ since this is a music thread:

you should check out vladimir vissotski.  my russian professor from mississippi wrote her dissertation on him, comparing russia's post serf music to america's post slave music, and other stuff.  something about the blues.  i never read the dissertation, but I love the music.

he;s like the most famous russian singer of all time.  like bob dylan of the russians.  or leonard cohen, or however is famouser.  but was not legally recognized as a musician, so he was a criminal in the soviet union, banned from recording (though, it is said, every house in russia had 2 of his albums), and died of too much drinking at a young age (or perhaps something else - it was russia back then, people just died.  like former scientologists die today).

How Much Of A Music Snob Are You?
You checked off 27 out of 100 on this list!

You're a major music nerd, and most people in your life consider you to be an expert. You're very committed, but there's some lines you don't cross.

I used to be much more of a music snob, I'm fine with this ranking.

: )

2014-04-16 06:10:07 PM
Number three is just plain fun to do to kids. No shame in messing with the younger folks. I love doing it with other technologies as well.

And there are definitely artists that sound better live. And there are some that sound better recorded. For example, The White Stripes (former) and the Strokes (later).

And organizing mp3s isn't a sign of music related anything. I do the same thing with pictures and any other large datasets I have. That's just plain nerd, or maybe "slightly autistic" in extreme cases.

Anyone, got an 11. So many questions in there I haven't the slightest idea what the hell they are talking about..

Remember that scene in The Fly where Jeff Goldblum cooks a teleported steak for Geena Davis and she says it tastes "artificial"?
MP3s ripped below 320 sound like that steak would've tasted. Especially in the cymbals and stereo separation. You don't notice it and that's fine... but some of us do and find it obnoxious. Doesn't make us "morans".
Not kickin' ya in the junk, just sayin'.

If by "rule" you mean suck, then....yeah.
They are not funny.  Their forced "wackiness" is grating and a poor substitute for personality.  One of the happiest days of my life was the day the retired.  One of the most frustrating is when I learned that they were going to keep playing warmed over re-runs of that horrible show every damn weekend.  They are bad and you should feel bad for liking them.

Not true. Maybe *you* can't hear the difference, but that doesn't mean that others can't.

If you have normal hearing response and even low- midrange quality equipment, you can hear it too. It maybe doesn't bother you, but it *is* audible. It bugs the shiat out of me.

Huh. 57/100, although I always thought the alphabetical arranging etc. was just OCD.

2014-04-16 06:41:07 PM
^ And to reiterate, I'm *not* a snob about it, either. I don't prefer the sound of vinyl, and don't bother with FLAC. I can't discern any quality differences at bitrates above 320, but I can hear it at lower bitrates and find it objectionable.
