WHy are people still so appalled by "curse" words? I lived in an apartment with beasts below me who, after I made a noise complaint, made punitive complaints against me/boyfriend who lives with me... including "they use swear words".  Um, sure. All the farking time. It's just how we, and most people we know, speak that way.

Quit with the pearl clutching.

Not sure what article you read, subby, but the bombshell I saw was that she's just a front for "Governor" McCleskey.

That was actually a pretty thorough article detailing a lot of issues with Susana Martinez, despite submitter's third-grade reading level.

Also, while foul language is indeed standard in this industry, referring to Ben Lujan as a "f*cking retard" is probably something one should avoid in New Mexico.

So much for GOP outreach...making fun of a Latino who was beloved by many Latinos in his state.

I dunno. It's a pretty decent newspaper. Left leaning, for sure, but it nailed the sh*t out of Mittens for some pretty indefensible stuff.

Yeah--that's absurd and lacks journalistic integrity. But I'm also not sure that denotes out and out libel. Mittens said what he said. It's available in context.

Unless it was Romney saying "I'm just kiddin' ya. I love those poor 47%ers!", then I'm prepared to say that two minutes probably nothing missed or anything that completely made the 47% line out of context. My cell phone will stop recording when it hits a certain amount of time. It's actually plausible that his phone really did stop recording and he had to reset it. Stop projecting O'Keefe level of video editing asshattery.

If the GOP tries to trot her out as the "See? We love women and Mexicans!" candidate, the Dems just have to bring up the Commission on the Status of Women veto and her ignorance of the DREAM Act and she goes down.

A lot of this is inside baseball, that folks outside the politics tab won't care about and that doesn't have the immediacy of the 47% comment.

OTOH, it might make consultants, etc., less willing to work with her if she seeks higher office, and could scuttle her VP chances. If she wants to run for Congress, she might run into some folks looking to repay grudges.

The racetrack deal might end up having legs. Citizens start caring when grand juries start convening.

FTFA: "A former staffer recalls the campaign on multiple occasions sending the license plate numbers of cars believed to be used by opposition trackers to an investigator in Martinez's DA office who had access to law enforcement databases. In one instance, a campaign aide took a photo of a license plate on a car with an anti-Martinez bumper sticker and emailed it to the investigator. "Cool I will see who it belongs to!!" the investigator replied."

Sheesh, yeah, give this group more power.  Oo

I'm a liberal, she is my governer and she has won me over. The last election I didn't vote for anyone for governor because the Democrat (Denish) was a toady and I wasn't going to trust a Republican from Las Cruces. Martinez has surprised me, however. She intelligent, she has worked incredibly hard, but most important she has risen above petty politics and really put the needs of the citizens of the state first. As things stand right now I can't see the Democrats nominating anyone capable against her so as things stand right now I'd vote for her next election. Don't get me wrong, she's a Republican, but she really isn't an ideologue. She more the "good governance" type of politician. This isn't just staging, she puts her money where her mouth is,

So you have no proof there was anything important missing, no proof that was intentionally edited out and nothing to show how Mitt tried to put his words in context that would have made any difference.

What we have is video proof in context filmed by an amateur and the fact that most conservatives actually showed support for the comments as true to their beliefs.

You are not compelling.

So... they are not too far off from how most upper echelon interactions happen?

The amount of cursing in the C-level corporate world would make a sailor blush. This is how business is done. Lots of emotion involved at that level, lots of passion. I honestly would be incredibly wary of anyone in power that did not cuss, as it would be an indication of their lack of passion to me.

Hollie Maea: Not sure what article you read, subby, but the bombshell I saw was that she's just a front for "Governor" McCleskey.

This

Not mentioned in the article is the dismantling of mental health in NM.

Which also leads directly to Albuquerque's recent fiasco with police abuse. McCleskey is tied to the hip with ABQs mayor, and the police chief. The same chief that said the execution of a mentally ill man was justified.

FTA: They zeroed in on issues-taxes, welfare, gun rights, the death penalty. Afterward, Martinez got into the car, turned to her husband, and said, "I'll be damned, we're Republicans." During her prime-time speech at the 2012 Republican National Convention...the I'll be damned punch line brought the crowd to its feet.

The GOP apparatchiks never realize they are the punch line.

That's one way to describe it. Another is "long". I don't live in New Mexico, so I lost interest after awhile. of course, if she's the 'next Arah Palin', I'll probably regret not reading more of this.

Link

Short version: Civilization X conquers Civilization Y, and likes to bash on them. X therefore says Y's words are for stupid, common people -- "vulgar" people -- and that the erudite (people of X, obviously) only use X's words. Thus, what goes from "perfectly acceptable word used commonly" goes to "now it's frowned upon" to "taboo" to "OMG!!!!"

You don't have a farking clue as to what you are talking about. Interestingly enough, I ran into the dear mayor just this past weekend and I don't even live there. But my sister-in-law is a big union gal and she voted for Berry. He's actually cleaning up the mess.

As for the decline in mental health care that is 100% the doing of Richardson and his butt buddy Manny Aragon. I'll concede that Martinez has not been the forceful advocate for the disabled that one would think given her personal life but she signed us up for the Medicaid expansion and that will begin to at least address some of those problems.

At the end of the day the police issue is fundamentally a issue of culture (with in the police department) and the problem is not going to get solved overnight. But trying to lay that at Berry's feet is just ignorance.

That's nothing.  If you want real cursing, come to the school where I work.  It's an eye-opening experience to hear an 8 year old drop the F-bomb 10 times in 30 seconds.  Hell, I'm worse than that in the privacy of my own home, when my 3 year old isn't around.
