What do you mean?

How depressing can a place be if you can get $1 drinks all night if you wear a bikini top and ride a mechanical bull?

Depends.  I only went once 8 years ago, but my strategy was to head downtown and get wasted at a depressing casino, and then some more time spent at places like Slots O' Run and Barbary Coast.  Places that are cheap and dirty.  I like dive bars.

Vegas has a whole lotta lame to it of course.  Places like Hard Rock which are populated by the LA leased BMW crowd were cheezy as hell (though I won $400 on video blackjack there while enjoying free drinks at the bar).   My strategy is to minimize my drinking costs while maximizing my drinking volume.

Yeah, if you have big tits. Which I do. Unfortunately you have to be a woman...

China opened a similar theme park in Orlando, "Splendid China".   I picked up some wonderful silk items there for very cheap.     The park was basically Chinese monuments, historical sites, and wonders shrunk down to scale.

I think Gillie's still has mud wrestling that you can watch.

/it is actually chocolate pudding though.

It would have to be a ton of fun to stage photos at the small scale replicas of the attractions in China though.

That's where my picture post is from.  Or rather, was.  It closed years ago.  Shame too.  It was a nice little atypical tourist spot here.

Vegas is what you make of it. I used to like "old vegas" up on the northern end of the strip, but then I think they kind of embraced that cachet so eventually "old vegas" became a parody of itself. There was a video blackjack machine in Luxor that was like a free ATM for a while, but I guess Ace Rothstien (or his equivalent) figured that one out. I haven't been there in quite some time. 5 - 7 years, maybe.

There is some pretty country not too far out of town, if you have access to a rental. Red Rocks, and some skiing up north in the winter...it's always worth it to get outside the tourist areas to see the real scenery*

*does not apply to Orlando

i can get $1 drinks at a bar a little ways down the street from my house.  no dress code (well, actually, there is a dress code, no saggy pants or something).  i don't think there's a front door, so no worries about closing.  and table hockey!

and you can get some oysters next door from the guinness book of world's records fastest oyster shucker (who does not like oysters, fyi)

Best Korea's fearless leader and China had team up again. They are producing a movie in which Kim Jung Uno will destroy a mock US Navy nuclear powered aircraft carrier and wreak havoc on copies of major world cities. Moral of the movie is that Best Korea is the best place on Earth to live.(citizens who complain will be re-educated, jailed, murdered etc)

Yes.  It looks like a lot of fun, but then you realize that the people serving you are under compensated and miserable.  The whole city is a facade.  I left big tips while feeling bad.

Funny:

When the project was revealed last year - inadvertently, by a Chinese visitor who was involved in it, Mr. Scheutz said - some Hallstatt residents were upset.

"They should have told us," the mayor said in an interview in his office.

Yes: the Chinese should have informed you because reasons.

the first thing that strikes me is the architecture/design.  how could you be happy with all that ugly around?

and gambling attracts a certain depressing element. that's why i make sure all my gambling is illegal.  much weirder people.

Old Vegas is going away. They are hipping it up for the artsy crowd around Freemont. Still my favorite side to go. Downtown is just too much lately.

I recommend staying on the outskirts, like The M, and making forays into downtown for your shows or sight seeing. There are lots of interesting places to go that are out of the tourist trap areas. I didn't know just how big the city is until my brother and father both moved there.
