Well at least they don't just plop down on your face like cats. How is it cats can look at your face and think. "that looks comfy"?

They don't yap if you train them even a little.  First time that teacup growled at me in that tone it would have gotten a finger rap on the snout.

We had a hound dog like mutt that would demand his ear rubs.  He would walk up to your seat, put his head in your crotch and do this whine/growl.  If you only rubbed on ear with one hand, he would keep nosing your other hand until he was in ear rub nirvana.

Vids like that leave me wondering if dogs or cats in the wild use their legs and paws as hands to the extent we see in domesticated critters. If they have conceptualized hand and communicate and shiat like that by being with us.

My dog does the paw thing on your arm if you stop petting him he's a 180 lbs. Saint Bernard.  Quite annoying actually.  Scratches your arm up real bad.

Anyone who keeps petting a dog after it shows aggressive behavior is not a fit owner.

My dog does this same sort of thing when getting bellyrubs. Upon my stopping, she uses her front paws to push my hand back onto her belly, as if to say "I DIDN'T SAY YOU COULD STOP!"

But she never growls or barks about it.

My cat always taps my hand or arm  over and over if she wants me to pet her

You mean the round thing with two space heaters in the middle?

Jesus, this. At least the incompetent owners in this video chose small dogs that aren't liable to maul people.

Much fur.  Craves attention.  I'm probably doing this wrong.

gopher321: All small yappy dogs, I see.

Big dogs need loving too and in my experience they aren't afraid to ask for it either.  I've actually seen dogs trip over their own feet in a desperate attempt to get some affection.  The bigger they are, the harder they fall.  Or is it the Harder they come, the harder they fall?  I'll ask Jimmy Cliff

Seriously.  The pawing is at least a plea for more attention, the growling should be disciplined immediately the fist time (and every other time) it happens.

Now tell that to my mom's dogs  (and they're why I'll never have pets) I know, but she/he won't enforce the rules.

some of those owners got straight biatched by yap-dogs

My lab who passed used to come up by the desk and then raise his head under my arm using the mouse to "suggest" he wants some head and neck rubbing.  I appreciated that over using his paws with the nails to scratch up my arm so he usually got some attention.  Any owner that allows a dog to growl for attention is courting danger and needs to cut that behavior out.  It isn't cute, it is the dog asserting dominance over the owner and believing it is above you which can lead to bad behavior and biting. Even a small dog nipping at you can cause a little damage especially if there is a small child around.

It's crap like that that gets people bit by little dogs.

This. They're only teaching the little yappers that aggressive behavior is the correct response to them not getting what they want.

I see a lot of bad dog owners. If you think this is cute you probably didn't see the hundred other behavioral issues these dogs have.

We've got a rat terrier that likes my wife more than me. If he's on my lap I have to be petting him, rubbing his ears, etc. The second I stop he will go sit with my wife. She doesn't have to pet him or show him any attention at all, but he'll sit there with her as long as she'll let him.

I have an Australian cattle dog that will beg (not demand) affection.  A low whine.  Reaching out to me.  Rolling on his side with legs up, looking at me with a face that say, "pleeeease?"

I guess I need to record it and create a viral video.

Growl at me for not petting you? How about a quick car ride to the pound?

I came here to say this. My dad has a large yellow lab who does this and even a dog that size can scratch your forearms all to pieces

My dog just gently nuzzles your leg with his nose. Quite cute, and thankfully doesn't make any sort of vocal sounds to get attention (though border collies aren't really known to be real vocal dogs, IIRC).

But yeah... I'd be worried about having any of those aggressive sounding ones around kids... or really, anyone. There is spoiling your dog, and there is just reinforcing bad mannerisms because it is funny that the dog sounds like he is going into aggressive attack-mode.

6 dogs here, from a little yapper to an actually dangerous beast. They all know their place...which is below me.

My 90 pound ridgeback wants you to pay attention to him but not touch him. No growling or anything just moves about 5 inches out of reach and then stares and stares and stares. Freaking weirdo.
